LFW Travel Guides - Yeovil Town, Huish Park
Wednesday, 4th Sep 2013 22:03 by Clive Whittingham

A new ground for many QPR fans and therefore a big travelling support expected as the R’s head to Yeovil for their only league away match in September.

Ground Name: Huish Park

Capacity: 9,665 (5,212 seated)

Address: Lufton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 8YF

Main Number: 01935 423 662

By Car:

Head out of town on the M3 towards Southampton, and leave at junction eight to join the A303. Long old 70 mile trek on that road past Andover and all the way down to the outskirts of Yeovil. The ground is on the outside of the town and well signposted from the A303 but essentially take the A3088 from the Cargate Roundabout, follow that for four miles to the roundabout at Westlands Airfield. Turn left and continue until you pass Asda and then the ground appears on the left. It’s 130 miles and two hours 25 minutes at the speed limit.

Parking:

Good news — lots of parking at the ground, and really cheap at just £2 a car, although that may increase now they’re in the Championship. Bad news — it takes an absolute age to clear afterwards. That’s right, it’s Northampton Town all over again — second reading of the classified football results and you’re still in the car park. An additional warning, if you arrive late in the day expect to be placed in an overspill car park which is a field and can be a bit of a nightmare in wet weather. Copious amounts of street parking available if you don’t fancy any of that.

Train:

Waterloo direct to Yeovil Junction or Paddington to Pen Mill Junction — both quite a distance from the ground (Pen Mill three miles, Yeovil Junction five) which means a taxi or bus is required rather than walking. Bus number 68 runs from both stations into the town centre and the First Traveller No. 1 service goes from the town to the Abbey Manor Park housing estate next to the ground every 15 minutes.

Most of the cheap tickets have gone on the trains. Try out of Waterloo at 08.20 (arrives 10.38) or 11.20 (arrives 13.38) for the singles under £30 on the way out, and back at 19.29 (arrive 22.04) for £24. You could have got a round trip for well under a score though if you’d booked in advance.

One idea might be checking the Mega Train website which at the time of going to press had tickets at 09.20 for £17 and 08.20 for £14. Coming back 18.29 was £17 and 20.29 was £14.

Coach:

No news on an LSA coach as yet. The official club coach leaves Loftus Road at 10.00 and the Target Roundabout at 10.30. It’s priced £26 Adults, £16 Senior O60s / Young Adults U21, £14 Under 16 with the usual discount for season ticket holders. LFW Message Board regular Mel/Norfolt is also running a bus priced at £25 — contact melh64@hotmail.co.uk for details and booking.

Pubs:

If you’re busing it from the train stations then the No.68 and the No. 1 connect at Lloyds Bank in the middle of town and The Mermaid pub nearby comes highly recommended for beer and food. The Arrow and The Airfield are nearest to the ground, with The Arrow offering food, Sky Sports and a mix of fans but carrying mixed reviews from previous visitors. A marquee at the ground selling beer doesn’t admit away fans in colours.

Tickets:

The club has 1,500 tickets on the terrace behind the goal priced £20.00 Adults, £15.00 Senior Over 65, £13.00 Young Person 16-21 and £8.00 Under 16. There are also 587 seats in the side stand priced £20.00 Adults, £16.00 Senior Over 65, £13.00 Young Person 16-21 and £8.00 Under 16 although these are only for sale to families, those with young children, senior citizens and ambulant disabled. They are currently on sale to supporters with 301 loyalty points or more and from tomorrow to fans with 201. Fans with 101 can buy from Friday and 30 from Monday. General sale will follow if any remain.
