Keep faith with QPR for a Christmas profit - betting
Friday, 20th Dec 2013 21:12 by Andy Hillman and Owen Goulding

Writing on Friday the 13th didn't stop our pundits nailing four winners last week, and in the final column before Christmas they look forward to the weekend clash between QPR and Leicester.

Andy Hillman

Back to winning ways last week, with another three winners, all around evens. Quite happy with how I called Derby , Man City and Man Utd exactly right, and I wasn’t far off with my other two bets. Looking down the fixtures list this week, there is actually potentially quite a lot of money to be made by following the stats, as opposed to what may be the obvious result to back this week...

NAP of the Week: Leeds to beat Barnsley @ 4/5

Why are Leeds (sixth in the league, second in the form table...) nearly EVENS to beat Barnsley (bottom of the league, twentieth in the form table) at home?! Yes, I get that it’s a Yorkshire derby and all, but the gulf between the two sides at the moment is pretty massive, and I’m pretty sure that Barnsley haven’t kidnapped Ross McCormack or anything like that. We’re only marginally bigger odds to beat Leicester.

QPR vs Leicester — QPR to win @ 15/13

Many QPR fans are expecting this to be a draw at best. We’re born pessimistic, and a positive outlook just doesn’t suit us. But the stats back a QPR win: best home record in the division; only dropped four points at home all season; 13 clean sheets in the last 18. Leicester played midweek, and haven’t won in four games. Leicester have already lost four times away from home this season, three of those defeats against teams in twentieth, twenty first and twenty second, in the league. There is no reason why we can’t win this game, and they’re offering better than evens that we do so.

Fulham vs Man City — Lay Man City @ 5/2

Yes, I am laying Man City against Fulham. Yes, this may finish 0-6 and I'll look a bit of a tit, but there is some sort of evidence to back up my suggestion: as amazing as Man City undoubtedly are at home, they have only won twice on the spin away from home this season. Fulham at least look like they have some sort of idea now under Meulenstein. City are without their undoubted star player in Sergio Aguero so 5/2 for Man City to not win looks like it could be value — certainly from a trading point on the exchanges...

Swansea vs Everton — Draw @ 12/5

Everyone is well aware of how well Everton are doing at the moment - fifth in the league, single defeat all season keeping up with and bloodying the bigger boys, but away at Swansea has all the hallmarks of a low scoring draw about it. Swansea may not be hitting the heights of previous seasons, but only Arsenal and Man U have won at the Liberty Stadium this season, and I think that a draw is the most likely outcome here.

Arsenal vs Chelsea — Chelsea win @ 9/4

This is exactly the sort of game that Chelsea win — can’t beat Sunderland in the week, go to the Emirates on the weekend and beat the league leaders. Chelsea do hold some sort of Indian sign over Arsenal — they’ve won the last three against Arsenal, and Arsenal have only won one of their last six at home vs Chelsea. Chelsea to win @ 9/4 looks tasty, as does Edin Hazard to score anytime @ 7/2

The Pro

A mouth-watering top of table clash takes place at Loftus Road on Saturday lunchtime as the cameras arrive in West London to see QPR take on Leicester .

Leicester had started the season superbly but recently they have stumbled. A victory for QPR last week at Blackpool sets this one up nicely. With a full house at the Bush and the majority of people celebrating the start of their time off over the festive season, the place really should be a rocking atmosphere. In terms of team news, Rangers are pretty much at full strength, with only Faurlin and Zamora missing out. Hill faces a late fitness test so Onouha could come in at centre half. Leicester will be without Chris Wood and Sean St Ledger so will be pretty much full strength themselves.

Leicester create many chances, mainly through the channels of Lloyd Dyer and Anthony Knockaert on the flanks. The perennial Championship striker David Nugent provides their main goal scoring threat. But they concede many too. Their last two away games have yielded zero points with defeats at Sheff Wed and Brighton , yet on both occasions they found the net in defeat and indeed they have only failed to score once away from home and only kept a clean sheet twice on the road all season.

No matter how I look at it, I think this game has goals in it. QPR have an excellent defensive record, but those that watch them regularly will know they've ridden their luck on plenty of occasions recently - most notably last week. Based on the stats alone, I can understand the price 888Sport are offering on both teams to score at a massive evens, but if you look beyond the stats for a change, having watched a lot of both teams this season, and considering Leicester's potent attack and our own ability to net, especially at home, its hard to look past this for my bet for this match. Its not one I'm going mad on but my recommended bet for this game is

QPR v Leicester - Both Teams to score (Evens) - 888Sport

Elsewhere my bet of the weekend comes at the other end of the Championship. Sheffield Wednesday entertain Bournemouth at Hillsborough and I'm surprised to see Sheff Wed available at prices as big as 6/4. Bournemouth aren't a bad side, but they are struggling after a decent start to the season. They have won only once in their last nine games but the telling fact for me here is they seem to struggle against the big physical sides. Sheff Wed have improved in recent weeks and with Reda and Roger Johnson, Loovens and Jacques Maghoma providing a physical test, this could be a tough trip for an out of form Bournemouth. In truth, The Cherries have picked up some excellent results away from home, but as explained before, its all about the price and taking the home advantage out of the equation - making Sheff Wednesday 6/4 v Bournemouth insinuates that Bournemouth are a much better side, and I just don't see that.

Bet of Weekend - Sheff Wed to beat Bournemouth - (6/4 BetVictor)

Walsall v Carlisle - Sean O Hanlon - 16/1 Anytime WillHill

Crewe v Shrewsbury - Joe Jacobsen - 12/1 Anytime WillHill/Skybet
