We are Premier League — podcast
Thursday, 12th Jun 2014 23:27 by LFW

The final Open All R’s podcast of the season features an interview with QPR owner Tony Fernandes and influential defender Nedum Onuoha.

Recorded shortly after QPR’s memorable last minute success at Wembley, the excellent final podcast of the season got immediate reaction from chairman Fernandes who revealed that while Neil Warnock had been in touch with good wishes before the final, Mark Hughes had kept his distance.

“I’m really looking forward to that game next season,” said Fernandes of QPR’s impending meeting with Stoke.

“I’ve watched the goal back about 750,000 times in every different language. I bought every newspaper, I usually only get digital versions but I went out and bought every one, titles I’ve never bought before.”

Fernandes also spoke about the poor quality of QPR’s new Nike kits, and the lessons learnt last time in the Premier League that will guide the club in its summer transfer activity.

Talking about the Gary O’Neil sending off Nedum Onuoha added: “It started with me giving the ball away. In football when you make a mistake there’s a ten or 15 second period where you’re thinking please nothing happen, please nothing happen. He put it through Dunney’s legs and I’m thinking oh no. Gary comes across and tackles him and I’m thinking oh please no. The referee whipped out the red card and I had a feeling that I’d ruined the day for everybody. But as the game progressed they had a lot of ball but it wasn’t too bad and we got away with it.”

On Bobby Zamora’s goal Onuoha said: “I went absolutely berserk.”

Regular host David Fraser and panellists Paul Finney, Chris Charles and Chris Mendes are joined in the studio by QPR’s head of media and comms Ian Taylor.
