Tickets, train and coach details for Everton away — travel
Tuesday, 25th Nov 2014 19:45 by Clive Whittingham

A particularly cruel Sky move of QPR’s Everton trip to Monday December 15 has been softened slightly by free coach travel being offered by the club.

Ground Name: Goodison Park

Capacity: 40,569 (all seated)

Address: Goodison Road, Liverpool, L4 4EL

Main Telephone No: 0871 663 1878

Ticket Office: 0871 663 1878

By Car

It’s about 210 miles up the M1 and M6 for QPR fans travelling from London to this one, a journey time of just shy of four hours at the speed limit. Once you’ve done the long slog up the M1 and M6 you leave the latter at junction 21A to join the M62 westbound which you follow through to its conclusion and join the A5058. After three miles turn left at the traffic lights next to McDonalds onto Utting Avenue and then travel a further mile until you reach Stanley Park and Priory Road — the ground is at the bottom of that road.

Parking

It’s an old fashioned city centre ground this one so it’s street parking and private car parks only. Stanley Park has one charging £8 a car, follow the directions above to Priory Road for the entrance, or alternatively pay £4.50 at the Walton Sports Centre off the A5058 on your way in. Street parking can be found around Walton Lane, or near Anfield. It’s been a while since we were last here, but I presume the time honoured “mind your car mister” system is still operated by the local scamps, chavs and drug runners.

By Train

There are quite a few ways to do Liverpool by rail for those who want to shop around and try and save a bit of money. Virgin Trains operate a fast direct service but you can also go via Crewe, Chester and Manchester without too much bother and maybe knock a few quid off. Of course, no trains back after a midweek match so you will need an overnight stay.

There are some £28.50 singles from Euston to Liverpool earlier in the day, and a £37.60 as late as 14.40, arriving at 17.13, although both require a change at Crewe. The extra-long London Midland services from Euston to Crewe (2 hours 38 minute journey time) currently have £13 singles available at 14.46 arriving 17.24 with a £9.70 extension required from there.

Coming back Tuesday there’s a £27 single at 11.47 (arrives Euston 14.00) or £20 with a change at Crewe at 12.04 arriving 14.39.

QPR fans arriving from London on the Virgin West Coast Mainline from Euston will pull into Liverpool Lime Street which is three miles away from the ground. Options from there are taxi (£6 is the guide’s estimate) or a local Merseyrail northern line service to either Kirkdale which is less than a mile away or Sandhills which is slightly further but operates a special football bus service before and after the game. If you buy a return ticket to Goodison Park, rather than Sandhills, the ticket is valid all the way to the ground and not just for the train journey.

By Coach

QPR have agreed to provide coach travel free of charge for supporters to this, given the awkwardness of making the journey on a Monday night. The coach leaves Loftus Road at 13.30 and the Target Roundabout at 14.00. Coach tickets must be booked in advance.
The LSA is yet to confirm coach details, judging how interest is affected by the date change and the club’s offer. If you are interested in travelling with the LSA, contact Gary on 07506 028 189.

Pubs

I suspect most QPR fans will be drinking in the city centre but around the ground the Wetherspoons run Thomas Frost on Walton Road is said to be 15 minutes walk away and popular, the Bradley’s Wine Bar (not as bad as it sounds apparently) may be a better bet if the former is too rammed. Those arriving by train may be better staying in the city centre and heading out later, The Head of Steam in the station itself has big screen sports and is CAMRA approved. The away end serves beer.

Match Tickets

QPR have been allocated 910 Lower Bullens tickets priced £34 adults, £21.75 over 65s, £17 under 16.

They also have 675 Paddocks tickets priced £37 adults, £23.25 seniors, £18.50 under 16.

The club has received 13 pairs of wheelchair and ambulant tickets priced as above. To book these tickets please call on 08444 777 007 and select option 1 for accessible tickets.
