LFW Awards - Make your vote count
LFW Awards - Make your vote count
Wednesday, 7th May 2008 20:40

Martin Rowlands may have taken the big prize at the club’s player of the year awards on Sunday, but voting is only just beginning for this website’s equivalent.

At the end of the 1999/00 season QPR went to Portsmouth for a meaningless end of season game with nothing at stake. They took the lead midway through the first half when Richard Langley drew his foot back from 35 yards and hammered an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Goal of the season no doubt, but as a starter for ten can anybody tell me what actually won the club’s goal of the season award that year?

No, nobody can. Most people remember the Langley goal, nobody can actually remember what the award winning goal was that season. So since taking over this website I’ve always held the vote for the season awards after the final match so as to include every game, and every goal. As it turned out we probably could have started this a fortnight ago such was the poor outcome and lack of goals in our final two games but hey, that memorable 45 yard screamer could have occurred at any moment. You never know.

There are three different ways to register your vote. Either post on the message board thread, click here and let us know, or e-mail me at loftforwords@yahoo.co.uk. As well as the categories below I’m happy to receive suggestions for other awards and their winners, serious and not so, and I’ll publish some of the best ones when we round this up in about ten days time.

In the meantime we’re taking nominations for:
- Player of the Year
- Young Player of the Year
- Best signing of the season (loan or permanent)
- Goal of the season
- Best opposing team
- Best opposing player
- Best match
- Worst match
- Best away trip
- Best away ground

Register your vote now for all of the above and keep an eye out for the results towards the back end of next week.
