De Canio Leaves QPR
De Canio Leaves QPR
Thursday, 8th May 2008 15:31

Luigi De Canio has left QPR by mutual consent after just over six months in charge at Loftus Road.

As the season drew to a close, there were various rumours around saying that De Canio had not settled in England, struggles with the language barrier etc and will not be with us next season. Today, he has left the club by 'mutual consent' and with immediate effect. It is believed at this stage that Gigi stood down rather than anything else.

De Canio took over in November from caretaker boss, Mick Harford, this following the end of John Gregory's reign which had left us propping up the Championship table. He had previous spells at Udinese, Napoli, Reggina, Genoa and Siena on his CV and from the bottom, guided us to 14th place and mid table safety and had the R's playing some decent, attractive football along the way, albeit spending a few bob too.

De Canio's full record at QPR is;

Played - 35

Won - 12

Drawn - 11

Lost - 12

The statement on the Official QPR Website is as follows;

Queens Park Rangers Football Club have parted company with First Team Coach Luigi De Canio by mutual consent with immediate effect.

The Club would like to place on the record its thanks to Luigi for his contribution to QPR and wish him all the best for a successful future.

Mr De Canio also wanted to express his gratitude for the opportunity to manage Queens Park Rangers and also for the fantastic experience he had during his time in England.

The Club will be making no further comment at this stage.

QPR also have also stated that they will be announce a successor in "due course". At this stage, it is strongly believed to be a British manager that has Championship experience. Here we go again...

Myself personally, and all of us here at LFW would like to thank Gigi for everything he has done at QPR and wish him all the very best of success in the future!
