Another day, another signing. And the way Pompey are going at the moment, it would be more of a story if there was a day without one.

Paul Cook completed his seventh addition to his squad when defender Christian Burgess joined from Peterborough.

The big centre-half told the Pompey website: 'This is a massive club and the set-up down here is great,” the defender, who played 32 times for The Posh last term, said to his new club’s official site.

“I got a call from the gaffer, had a look round and everything was first class. It doesn’t feel like a League 2 club — there are more fans here than at most League 1 sides. Hopefully we can move up the leagues and we want to meet the expectations that there are of us.

'I’m excited to be here and am looking forward to what is hopefully an exciting season ahead.'

Burgess follows Kai Naismith, Kyle Bennett, Enda Stevens, Gary Roberts, Adam McGurk, Adam Barton in the Fratton Park entrance.

It's not known how many more new recruits are planned but Cook's strike rate in terms of tying down targets before hardly a pre-season ball has been kicked is highly impressive.
