QPR 2 Barnsley 1 Saturday, 9th Aug 2008 23:07
Rangers battled to a nervous 2-1 victory at home to Barnsley on Saturday as two goals from Fitz Hall proved good enough to seal all three points for the R’s at Loftus Road
Rangers were pretty poor value for their victory in truth. Barnsley took the lead in the opening ten minutes and could have taken the lead on two occasions before Iain Hume grabbed his now customary goal against QPR to put the Tykes ahead.
The game turned in 180 seconds either side of the half hour mark when Fitz Hall first bundled home a free kick from Emmanuel Ledesma and then hooked home a corner from the same man to but the R’s in front.
Rangers looked pretty nervous and poor in the second half but had an ideal chance to seal the match when Dexter Blackstock was awarded a kind penalty by referee Neil Swarbrick – Rangers abandoned their normal penalty taking hierarchy to allow Hall to complete his hat trick but his tame kick was saved easily by Luke Steele and the crowd of almost 15,000 was left to bite its nails a little bit longer.
