QPR v Derby County Betting Preview
QPR v Derby County Betting Preview

The boys are back, previewing QPR v Derby and looking for value elsewhere in the weekend markets.

A blank week for the pundits last time out – although you could see where The Don was coming from the a Damion Stewart first goal bet, Stewpeas just obliged a few days too late at Aston Villa instead of at Coventry. He loses the ten pounds he won in week one to return to break even with money invested in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Brian Power had Rangers down for a win at Coventry, and was unlucky not to ge that, and Bournemouth’s shock win at Bradford knackered his treble - £50 off him then, but he’s still £40 in the black.

The Don
Something that may have escaped your attention – and who can blame you – is that I have now completed 30 years active support of my beloved Rangers. My first match was a top flight encounter with Manchester United. We were running a bit late; me, my dad and my mates Ian and Rupert – great name – and had only just got onto the Loftus Road terrace when Ian Gillard scooted up the flank and rifled the ball past Alex Stepney (I think).

Cue mayhem and a very early introduction to ‘seventies culture’ as a bunch of moody Mancunians were outed and ousted. One could say they were happy days – ok, no one likes a fifty pence coin cracking open their cranium , but at least if you were nimble, you could avoid that seven sided piece of alloy – not so, thirty years later, the more precious metals platinum, gold, sliver and bronze. Oh lordy, what happened to the people’s game?

Talking of small change, no return from last week’s effort. Granted, the majority of my allocation was on ante post wagers, but we are down £10 on the week – and level overall – after our centre backs failed to notch the first goal. Frustrating – but glorious – that Damion Stewart should nod home in our very next match against the Villa. Oh well, a small price to pay!

It’s the Merseyside derby this weekend, and I can’t help thinking this has stalemate written all over it. So invest £10 in EVERTON and LIVERPOOL to DRAW (23/10 with Victor Chandler). At Loftus Road, although this is just the sort of match we have historically capitulated in for no good reason, I still think the 5/6 on offer from Paddy Power is reasonable. So, invest £30 at that price on a QPR WIN.

No get rich quick wagers there of course, so I feel I need to offer you hope in the form of a more exotic bet. I think the 33/1 (Ladbrokes) available on KUBICA in the Singapore Grand Prix is a tempting price – invest £5 each way on this gentleman.

For the weekend:
Everton v Liverpool: £10 Draw at 23/10
QPR v Derby: £30 QPR Win at 5/6
Singapore Grand Prix: £5 Each Way Kubica at 33/1

Previously advised:
Vision d’Etat (£10 e/w @ 10/1) and Meisho Samson (£10 e/w @ 25/1) in Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

Brian Power
My current job means I have to travel from my office in Milton Keynes overlooking a lovely lake and spend 3 days a week in a tower block overlooking Stamford Bridge . Every time I looked out the window I had this urge to raise two fingers and launch into a volley of verbal abuse towards an empty stadium. I have escaped this awful view thanks to hot desking. If you don’t work in a office this doesn’t mean setting fire to the furniture it just means there are 20 desks and you sit where you want. If I get in early enough I can sit on the other side of the office and in the distance I can see the tops of the floodlights of HQ and Wembley Arch and this leads to the point that if we reach Wembley via the playoffs or one of the Cups it if the board had got their own way (fair play to the FA on this one ) it could be cheaper to watch your team compete in a major Final than it will be to watch them play Derby at Home.

So onto to Derby I have a bad feeling about this one as over the years you can guarantee that a side that has not won away from home for a long period would visit Loftus Road and head off with three points. And normally on the back of a good result with mess up. So I will leave the result alone but will have a dabble on 1st scorer and will have a tenner on Ledesma.

With racing at Ascot we will have a few quid on both Saturday and Sundays racing and our normal footie bet

For the weekend:
£10 1st scorer Ledesma 7/1 Bet365
£20 Accum with Skybet Leeds 2/5 Blackburn 15/8 Luton 4/5
£10 3.05 Ascot Saturday Dream the Impossible 7/1 Bet365
£10 Ascot Sunday Young Mick S/P
