Balanta staying at Wycombe, Helguson staying with QPR, Buzsaky suffers set back

Promising young striker Angelo Balanta will stay with Wycombe until Valentines’ Day after his loan was extended, meanwhile Heidar Helguson looks set to sign permanently following his brace at the weekend.

Many fans were surprised when Balanta was allowed out on loan in the first place but he will now stay at Wycombe for a further two months until February 14 after impressing with two goals in five starts so far. QPR do have a 24 hour recall option with him.

Paulo Sousa told the club’s official website: “Angelo is benefiting greatly from the experience he is getting at Wycombe. He is playing regularly in a very good environment and this will only help him to develop as a player. I have spoken to Peter Taylor who has been very impressed by him, and of course, we will continue to monitor his progress over the coming weeks."

There has been no official word on Akos Buzsaky who tore ankle ligaments when he got his boot caught in the turf at Old Trafford last month, however sources have told LFW that he has suffered a minor infection following an operation on the injury but is now back on the road to recovery. This has also been posted on many of the club’s message boards this week. Buzsaky was not expected to play again this season but will hopefully be fit for the start of the next campaign in August. Rowan Vine, the other long term absentee, is targeting a return in March and has an important date with his surgeon tomorrow. He has not played since breaking his leg in a training ground clash with then reserve goalkeeper Matt Pickens in April.

Elsewhere Lee Cook has been speaking about his impending permanent move back to Rangers and playing for Paul Sousa.

Cook told the Telegraph: ““The one thing that has stood out for me is his tactical awareness. It’s going to take time - he has said that to us - but he goes through every single detail. We’ve completely changed the way we’re playing.

“From a personal standpoint, I love this place. For me to commit my future here is very much something I want to do. I’ve had to take a step back because I missed a year. The aim is still Premier League football but I’d like it to be with this team. The manager keeps telling me how important he thinks I am. When you have Paulo Sousa telling you that, it’s a big boost.”

Cook was back to his very best on Saturday against Preston but was pipped to the man of the match award by the equally impressive Heidar Helguson who combined a terrific display of target man play with a brace of goals. He was only denied a hat trick by a late save from Andy Lonergan. In a rather cryptic quote at the weekend Bolton manager Gary Megson seemed to suggest that the deal will become permanent if Helguson, who has been injury prone in the past, completes a certain number of games during his loan spell.

Megson said: “A lot of the time Heidar hasn’t played it has been down to the form of Nicolas Anelka, Johan Elmander or Kevin Davies. He had one or two injuries in between but has been fine for a while now. He’s got an opportunity down at QPR and there is something that will trigger after a couple of games. He is playing them at the moment and scored on Saturday, so he’s doing well for them.”

Daniel Parejo has spoken of his delight at returning to Real Madrid. The Spanish midfielder failed to impress during his loan spell at QPR but says he has benefited from the time here.

Parejo told sports paper Diario AS: “You can never say no to Real Madrid and I have waited for this moment for many years. I am returning to Real Madrid more complete as a person and as a footballer, but also with the hopes that all former youth team players have. Now I want to help the team all that I can.”

The rumour mill continues to steadily churn out a list of potential transfer targets with January just around the corner – several papers at the weekend reported that Rangers will fight it out with Cardiff for the permanent signature of Wayne Routledge who is currently impressing at Ninian Park on loan from Aston Villa.

In former R’s news you will not be surprised to hear that Leon Knight has been kicked out of another club – Rushden and Diamonds have sacked the ‘poisonous dwarf’ for breaches of club discipline after 13 appearances and four goals. Rushden have though added Justin Cochrane, a QPR youth team graduate, to their line up following his release by Millwall.
