All the usual hints and travel tips for the QPR fans heading up the A1 to Peterborough on Saturday.

Ground Name: London Road
Capacity: 15,314
Address:London Road, Peterborough, PE2 8AL
Main Telephone No: 01733 563 947
Ticket Office: 01733 865 674

By Car:
Very simple trip although if I recall correctly on our last visit here in the 2003/04 season a massive pileup on the A1 meant many QPR fans missed the majority of the first half. Anyway it’s 83 miles from Loftus Road and two hours at the speed limit, which seems a lot to me but anyway. Straight up the A1(M) to junction 17, then off onto the A15 towards the middle of Peterborough and the ground should appear on your right after three and a half miles.

Parking:
Relatively easy here with a large car park at the ground, a large council pay and display to the left of the A15 as you approach the ground and street parking in the residential areas a little further afield as you drive into town from the A1.

By Train
Peterborough is served by high speed East Coast Mainline services from London Kings Cross with a journey time of just under an hour, and slower First Capital Connect trains from the same place which take around 90 minutes. Obviously the FCC ones are cheaper with an off peak day return (i.e. a walk up and buy at the station fare) of £23 – leave 1122 arrive 1239, come back at 1718 arrive 1849 for that one. The faster services are only £3 more at the weekend though 1110 arrives 1156 and 1737 arrives 1828 look the best bets. The ground is easily walkable from the station – the guides say it’s a mile but in my experience it is nothing of the sort. Come out of the station, turn right and follow the main road round past ASDA, walk across the river bridge and the ground is clearly visible on the left. Cross the large car park to the far end of the ground for the away end. .

Pubs:
The ground, train station and town centre are all in very close proximity so there is no shortage of pubs, although beerintheevening suggests that only three in the whole place have Sky Sports for the Liverpool v Everton game so you may struggle if you want to watch that. The Cherry Tree on Oundle Road is the favourite haunt of away fans who arrive by car and/or want to drink near the ground, The Brewer’s Tap is the closest to the railway station for those arriving by train and has a Thai menu for those that like that sort of thing. Many QPR fans often frequent ‘Charters’ which is an old Dutch barge moored on the river near the ground – that has a bar downstairs that has been a favourite in the past.

Tickets:
Rangers were given the thick end of 4000 tickets for this divided roughly three to one in favour of the terracing behind the goal as opposed to the block of seats at the end of the main stand. The facilities in both stands are primitive to say the least. The terrace is priced £17 adults, £14 seniors and students and £10 kids. The seating is £22 adults with the same priced concessions. These have now all been returned to Peterborough for sale on the day.
