Studds: appeal for old Dale shirts
Wed 04th Jul 2012 09:00 by Col

As part of a project by the Club and Dale Trust to improve the decor of supporters' bar Studds, we are looking for old Dale shirts to stick on display.

The plan is to have home shirts from the past 25 seasons placed in frames and put on display in Studds Bar, as part of a project that will make Studds Bar the premier venue for Dale supporters to visit before home games. From the days of the infamous watering can through to the centenary kit and beyond, we want to display this piece of Dale history in all its glory to fans of all ages. A number of shirts have already been donated, but many more are needed to complete the collection. We are after the following shirts:

Season 1988-89

Season 1989-90

Season 1991-92

Season 1993-94

Season 1994-95 (white version)

Season 1995-96

Season 2002-3 & Season 2003-4

Season 2005-6

Season 2006-7

Season 2007-8

Season 2008-9

Season 2009-10

Season 2010-11

Season 2011-12

If you have any of the above shirts and wish to help out, please email the club at oldshirts@rochdaleafc.co.uk giving details of which kits you are happy to help out with.

It's a shame that they never had this type of thing before. Dale memorabilia, shirts, photos etc adorning the walls of the Studds bar.

Oh, I forgot - they DID.....

It was my attempt at sarcasm ATP..... :(

Up till a couple of seasons ago 'Studds' was decorated greatly with all sorts of Dale memorabilia, but somebody in their infinate wisdom decided to take it all down. It could have been auctioned-off, not sure, I can't remember the reason behind it.

I just find a certain irony in the...... "As part of a project by the Club and Dale Trust to improve the decor of supporters' bar Studds, we are looking for old Dale shirts to stick on display."

I'm not disagreeing with the idea, the place is soulless, however it's paradoxical.

Fair enough. It sounded like you were disagreeing with the idea, when in reality you should probably have said 'Well Done' to the club on getting the 'soul' back into the place?

You might have been trying to say that and I am being a bit dim, but it just seemed a little odd to me that's all.

I can't remember, I'm being dim this time..... :/

Much of the stuff that was in Studds was simply outdated. There were canvas pictures of Dale legends such as Stephen Hill which may have been relevant in 2004, but not any more. There were framed shirts from players - some of which were sold at Jack's kit auction, whilst some have been retained for future use having not reached the minimum sale value. These will have a future use in Studds. There are many more ideas in the pipeline than just the shirt idea floated in the main story. I don't believe anything has been discarded and many remain in storage, but the framed player shirts aren't suitable for the above project.
