Aside from Alex Salmond, is there anyone bothered by this? Not the biggest fan of the Olympics but this is surely the JPT equivalent and a chance for the Scots to bask in their own stereotypes.

The non event of the sporting calendar.

The whole idea of the Commonwealth is pretty tenuous these days. There's no doubt it brought infrastructure benefits to Manchester in 2002 and looks like it's doing the same for a run-down side of Glasgow, but in terms of competition it'll be no more than a decent standard of practice for those athletes who can be bothered to take part.

As a sporting spectacle, perhaps a little, but as a thing that impacts on my daily life, no. The public transport infrastructure in Glasgow isn’t fit to cope with the millions of extra people in the city over the 11 or so days, meaning regular commuters are put out considerably. The “use alternate routes or set off earlier” mantra adopted by First has really p*ssed people off, as most alternate routes are affected and those with inflexible employers or those with childcare issues can’t leave earlier/finish later.

It isn’t the fault of the Games, it is the fault of those bidding in earnest without checking the proper systems are in place. The one-way systems being operated at the main city train stations are an absolute joke too. The fact that the entirety of Central malfunctioned last night, causing massive disruption on the eve of the Games, compounded the problem and afforded me a little Schadenfreude.

Anyway, that’s my grumpy old man moan out of the way.

Enjoy the lawn bowls.

Reported 90% of available tickets sold. So yes, looks like a few folk care enough and far more popular than Dehli.

Am up for the 7s on Saturday. There for the sport rather than the event but very much looking forward to it.

After the success of the Tour De France and our game at Fylde, it can't even claim to be the biggest sporting event in Britain this month.
