Attendances 22:16 - Sep 17 with 3859 views | mikehunt | Well. I was shocked by last night's attendance too. I think we have to wait until Saturday to draw final conclusions. But it does seem to be like shoving sh1t uphill. Other clubs are struggling too, though. Blackburn for example: season tickets same price as ours. Match v Wigan last Sunday £10 in. Tonight v Derby £6 in. They are desperate to drag support in at any cost. I sometimes think we should call the Rochdale public's bluff by making a Saturday match completely free. I can hear the gasps of horror from here but, depressing as the resulting attendance might be, at least it will show us, once and for all, what we are up against. The only way I can see us moving forward is by getting a new ground and rebranding. Again, not in our lifetimes. One other thing, last time the almighty bury were lauding it in the second division (Championship as it is now) they were briefly top of the league but still only getting crowds of 5500. I met their chairman at that time who was very gracious when he heard I was a Dale fan. He told me that them and Dale were very similar teams but would never crack large attendances - and then he ran off with all the cash. Some things never change.

Attendances on 14:01 - Sep 19 by D_Alien | TVOS any chance of reminding us what our average gate was in 2010/11? Cheers in advance. |
Sorry to butt in but I have it down as 3537. And might I point out, as I don't think it's been mentioned, that any 'occasional' supporter prior to the Walsall match might have been dissuaded from attending by home results this season - defeats by Posh, Preston and Bradford and only one goal scored, that in the 1-1 draw v. Bristol C. Also in that successful 2010-11 season - 9th in D1 - there were some poor crowds on Tuesday nights - 2312 v. Bournemouth and 2019 v. Notts C. Imaginative methods of promoting future home games might help, though the best way of attracting the floating fan would be (if it isn't too much to ask of players and manager) a run of 4-0 wns.

Attendances on 14:23 - Sep 19 by D_Alien | 3450 So we're pretty much averaging the same so far this season as our first one back in L1 last time, and I can see us improving on that with the next few games coming up. |
Wasn't 3450 the average for the 2009-10 promotion season ?

Feel free to butt in! You could well be right - the website I looked it up looked a bit dodgy - always best to ask TVOS I did however make the very same point earlier in the thread about our previous home games/results; the non-regulars leaving the ground shaking their heads as if they'd been mugged for paying through the gate only for us to have the temerity not to win.

Online sources aren't always 100% accurate as they often use the attendance released on the day of the game. Some attendances are later revised by clubs (I know Colin Garlick has sent me changed attendances several times which aren't altered on things like Soccerbase), but I always put them onto my database. As said, I'll have a look when I get home. Of more immediate interest/worry, the attendance on Tuesday was actually seven less than when we played Walsall in the JPT three years ago!

Not for me. Oodles of mongery online before, during and after the game and a very difficult tie that could go either way.

Attendances on 17:48 - Sep 19 with 776 views | ColDale | In judging attendances, I think its often worth considering that crowds rise when teams start doing well. For all but 18 months, it's been continued success - indeed we've probaby got a generation of Dale supporters who have been brought up on success. It's hard to gain momentum when the norm is doing well.
Attendances on 20:08 - Sep 19 with 706 views | pnc4eva1 | Dale will always struggle for attendance figures that the football deserves. We could be in the premiership and playing in the champion's league and people would still find an excuse not to come.

Attendances on 22:55 - Sep 19 with 591 views | BartRowou | Doesn't help that we have a fixture board on the corner of Sandy/Wilbutts that almost seems embarrassed to advertise the next game. If you want to attract passing fans, you have to make it BIG and BOLD and COLOURFUL. Also, move the ground somewhere central e.g Sandbrook Park/Kingsway - out of sight, out of mind etc.

How are Sandbrook Park and Kingsway any more central than Spotland? Everyone knows where the ground is; they just won't go there in great numbers.

We've progressed past dealing with low crowds, and it's now a job to try and work out why they aren't coming. Collating info is reasonably easy with a bit of time and effort.
