Start saving up and go to it, thus watching
Proper international football and not that
Under 21's that you obsess about.

Just an idea, pal ;)

And if they wanna play it in may when it isn't as warm
Then they have got the players interest in mind..
Am sure that would a hell of a lot better
Than having players fainting cos it is too hot.

Playing in May in cooler temperatures is a sensible vision. Temps will be similar to most of Brazil was at that time of year.

Qatar will somehow manage to make it cool enough. They need to and they certainly have the money to do it.

If White Elephants top up their tans, they would become brown( or possibly red) elephants, and would no longer be white elephants. But, I agree, being on a pitch with elephants, whatever their colour, would be dangerous.

Michel Platini has often expressed an interest in making European football a summer game. There are some who believe that his vote to Qatar would help go some way to making this a reality, as we'd have to manoeuvre a lot of dates to get a winter World Cup sorted. (It'd take more than a month when you consider the preparation the national teams undergo for each tournament.) From other quotes including the one in that article, it seems that Blatter also wants a winter World Cup.

The top clubs here are trying to ensure it doesn't happen and rightly so. A winter World Cup could be devastating for us.

Tangled up in blue.

"A winter World Cup could be devastating for us."

I disagree it'll be the perfect time to introduce the infamous Winter Break

If football became a summer game (with a nine-month season) wouldn't all World Cups/Euro Championships then have to take place in winter?

Hence its a non-starter.

Both Platini and Blatter have pushed for it in the past.

The winter break that people propose and is used in Europe lasts 2-3 weeks, not the 2 months that we'd need for a World Cup Taz.

They can push as much as they like, but when push comes to shove, it's a non-starter.

No reference in these articles as to when the major international tournaments will be played. The months "outside" the summer season are December and January.

January in Moscow, anyone? It won't be like watching Brazil.

It works both ways though doesn't it? Moscow unplayable in January, Qatar unplayable in July.

It should have gone to Australia. The whole debacle of Qatar getting it is a joke - do they even have a football league over there? Talk of stadiums all being indoors with air conditioning - its just not practical. Where next for Blatter ? A north or south pole world cup?

Not really.

Moscow would be fine in July, with the football league season ending in May.

Qatar wouldn't be fine in January because it'd clash with a few dozen premiership games.

That's how we stand. To change the football league season for the sake of accommodating one world cup tournament that should never be happening is just about the worst case of the tail wagging the dog I've heard in a long time.

They do have a league but the standard isn't great, although some players have gone over there for a payday (Yakubu, Marcel Desailly and Chico Flores to randomly name 3). Don't think they plan to have the stadia inside.

provided they get free gold watches Platini and Blatter couldnt give a monkeys.

Qatar 'won' the bid based on a summer (northern hemisphere) world cup. Only after getting the nod did this stuff about changing the timing come out.

Euro countries should simply boycot the event and hols their own.

any world cup that has this as a potential stadium is always liable to cause a stir.
