Is there any more thrilling sight in sport than a top class thoroughbred blasting through the best opposition to claim victory?
An absolute triumph for Dettori, who looked washed up just a couple of years ago. And talk about putting your money where your mouth is - Golden Horn's owner stumping up £75k for a late entry into the race. First prize £800k.
OK, you could argue that people are just playing with silly money and can afford to lose it, but that's not how I see it. Without that level of input, the world of horse racing wouldn't exist and we'd all be the poorer for it. Plus, it sustains an industry that employs many thousands of people up and down the country.

Ask any professional jockey, they might not tell you who is gonna win the race, but they know who is pulling up and who isn't gonna win.
Even if that's the favourite!
Pull the horse, odds drop out for the next race because it finished 5th last time out. Next race happens to be for more prize money, let the horse go this time and bam!!
Owner puts loads on cos odds higher and they know they have been holding it back, in the money, plus the bit jockey holding horse back last few races [Post edited 7 Jun 2015 1:19]

I don't follow horse racing on a day to day basis, and quite frankly couldn't give a f*ck if it's as bent as hell within the confines of sellers, handicaps and even lower group races.
One thing I do know - when people spend significant sums of their personal fortune on the off chance of producing a horse that beats the best of it's generation, that's something worth celebrating. That happened yesterday. Your post in response is as worthless in that context as a bent jockey. | |

The thing about this Deby winner is that his owner also owned his mum who he now regrets selling....
The way it won the derby from the position it was in coming into the home straight is the sign of a decent horse..
With response to people giving their thoughts upon the sport being bent and it is do agree with you all on that point..
But at the end of the day if you know that your horse you own is going to win such n such race you dont shout it from the roof tops do you otherwise you wont get a decent price for it...
I do think that the hirse racing world needs more transparency for the masses.... |  |

Don't see Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum entering too many of his gee-gees in this or the Derby having to worry too much about competition. Does look fun though!
