One for Bobbyjoe to read, but Strachan is spot on. Well, apart from the bit about his son who joined us briefly after Paddy had already been at the club for two years.
It did indeed - and Kinnear moaned like mad as usual after the game saying we only had 1 player (Steve Banks on loan from Bolton in goal if I remember right). Lee Todd and Bayliss were at it as not best of mates apparently and Bayliss was waiting in the car park for him!!! :)

Paddy McCourt signs 2 year deal on 10:35 - Jul 2 by ParkinsGimp
Good luck to him, one of the most exciting players I have seen at the Dale.
He was. And he stood out for being a player with talent beyond any we'd seen at Spotland.
But then we saw players like Hendo and Will Buckley who could do it consistently, be team performers whilst dazzling with the talents and regularly have an end product. (and Hendo's gambles on the offside trap have no relevance in this thread). Lovely lad, all the talent in the world, and falsely accused of being some sort of pÃsshead after an unfortunate pic in the Ob. But he's a million miles away from the modern day footballer.
His career trajectory is not coincidental.

He would have benefited greatly if Hollins had stayed at the time with us. His skill was greater than any I can remember as a forward player, though of course he wasn't the all round complete player, but he was never going to be, like many of his ilk who are flair players.
I sometimes think that the negatives around Paddy cloud just how lucky we are to have seen him play. Watch any of those goals, he scores them almost without effort. It really is genius on a level we haven't or won't see from any other player in a Dale shirt.
Still maintain there are only two other players in the modern era who could go past a man like Paddy. Gazza and Messi.
