The most effective 'tactic' and one that brings the biggest advantage in our division (where fitness, strength and skill levels are relatively equal) is to score the first goal in a match. THAT should be our primary aim. Hill's priority is to try NOT to concede first, which, perversely, means we often DO (like tonight) because we are not playing offensively. Now, I could understand his gameplan if it was working and we had the players who can defend well and others who can counter-attack with pace. The two centre-halfs, McNulty and Lancashire, are accidents in shin pads. Kennedy is a shadow of his former self. This is not a defence that will withstand pressure and facilitate a sneaky 1-0 win. Likewise, we don't have anyone willing to run at defences and convert perhaps our one and only chance in a game we have set out to grind out a result, as they say. Well, we do have such a player (Mendez-Laing) but Hill hardly plays him. No big deal, yet, and no one's mentioning crises but, surely, a change of tactics is required. Play the game that suits the team, not the other way round. Go for it! No fear! | |
