Lancs relegation decider this week. 15:36 - Sep 18 with 6189 viewsaleanddale

Exciting game for Lancs this week v Warwickshire.

Hampshire are playing Durham so equally difficult.

Durham win we are safe. Hampshire win and lancashire lose we go down.

Come on the red rose!!!

Not if you don't bowl Durham out twice.

Though I won't deny I'd take 2 days of rain at either venue right now.

I'm lancs tbh but want hants to stay up for personal reasons.

Gissa job

I'd suggest you wrap yourself in the Hants flag this week.

Lancs have been atrocious across all 3 formats this season. Not sure you can justify Ashley Giles' position - over a long season literally nobody has improved.

Against Durham earlier in the season, Anderson played only one innings in a very close game whilst Stokes (playing in the same England game Anderson went back early for) stayed for the whole game which Durham duly won. Add to that the fact that Anderson hasn't played for lancs since he finished England duty, and that Butler hasn't played this week.

Surely questions have to be asked of the management as they seem to have done a shocking job in managing the situation!!

Whilst one could argue that Giles hasn't exactly covered himself in glory this season, it's simply not true to say that nobody has improved.

Both Hameed (full test squad) and Livingstone (Lions squad) have made huge strides. Other youngsters are also emerging. I'd argue we've been too dependent on our younger players, and that the real problems have been in attracting only mediocre players from abroad whilst mismanaging (as previously mentioned) our test players.

Young players such as Hameed and Livingstone have made massive strides this season. Jones and Parkinson have also show promise for the future. Unfortunately Davies has missed most of the season through injury. Add Mahmood into the mix and that is a good core of young players that could serve the county well for the future. The problem has been significant holes in the top order and the lack of a contributing overseas player in all formats. Injuries to the likes of Bailey and Buttler have also affected the strength of the team and it looks like Tom Smith might be finished due to his back injury.

For next season Giles should target an overseas top order batsman for the county championship and maybe another couple of middle order batters, especially if Peterson retires. I am not sure who is available of a decent standard. Stoneman, Chopra and Borthwick have all been snapped up. There must be some money available for a few good signings?

Lancs set an improbable 347 for victory. Need to just bat and battle for the draw

chink of light as well as Hampshire make a dogs dinner of day 3.

Durham fighting back well and that game looks close once again.

Lancs under the cosh here to salvage anything.

Could a Durham fightback give us a lifeline??

Feel they need a real world class bowler... but so does everybody.

There was a time when Lancashire could sign anybody. Now they take what they can.

Who are YOU with?

Agree with that. One would hope that during those periods when Jimmy Anderson is 'resting' he'd be around the nets passing on his experience to the younger pace bowlers, but there's nothing like having a top class strike bowler out in the middle to encourage and advise younger bowling partners whilst leading by example. I guess that's what all counties are looking for, and it must come down to what Lancs can afford to pay. The club have concentrated their finances in rejuvenating the ground to maintain test match status, where the real income is.

Edit: two wickets down already

Seriously shocking display in such an important game. Surely questions have to be asked of giles. He was weak with England and Warwickshire too so see no difference at Lancs.

We may well escape with the Durham result but it masks a truly abysmal showing this week

Abysmal indeed, defeat by 237 runs

Durham still just one wicket down at tea so looks like we'll survive the drop

Always knew we'd have enough points on the board...
