Did anyone catch the end of Soccer Saturday today? Hartlepool lost and replaced Newport in the relegation zone. Before the full time results were read out Jeff Stelling gave a highly impassioned plea to Hartlepool's manager to walk away and to the chairman to sack him. He seemed furious and emotional. He said if he loses his position at Hartlepool (I can't remember what position he said he held) then so be it.
"In 2015, Stelling was appointed president of Hartlepool United after accepting a request from the club's owners.[15]
In 2016, Stelling walked 262 miles from Hartlepool United to Wembley Stadium over 10 days raising over £420,000 for Prostate Cancer UK. He walked with his friend Russ Green, who was the Chief Executive of Hartlepool United at the time, and was joined by over 400 walkers including his friends from Sky Sports and the football world such as Chris Kamara, Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas and Paul Merson. On Day 3, Sir Ian Botham arrived to lend his support and walked with Stelling to Glanford Park, the home of Scunthorpe United."
Good for Jeff, I am sure there are many (well however many are left) feeling exactly the same way. He is showing that his passion for the club comes before his own professional status. Love it. Youd never see the Gary Linekers of the world showing that sort of passion.
We have been through our own desperate times over the years when club owners appeared to have things other than the best interests of the club as the priority. Anyone who suffered through the 1973-4 season will still be amazed how a certain walter joyce was not fired.

Yeah, passion before professionalism, that's the kind of attitude that exemplifies what's wrong with little Britain.
And I seem to remember Gary Linker being hounded by the Daily Mail and other rags over his stance and comments regarding the disgusting treatment of young and vulnerable asylum seekers in Calais last year. But as it was controlled and eloquent and wasn't ranting about football on live TV then it won't count ty vole!

Jeff Stelling has raised millions for Prostate Cancer UK. He is a hero to many and has the passion to speak out occasionally.
