Happy St George's Day 09:44 - Apr 23 with 1837 viewsYouTubeDale

I noticed Royton have English flags on each lamp post and celebrate it each year.

Should we be throwing a party as a nation?

Vote Labour at the next election and we will be able to party every year when they
make St George's Day a bank holiday.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

For simple maths, if you start work aged 20 and retire at 70, that mean you will be voting for an extra 50 days holiday. Given that we spend too much time at work Labour should be pushing this one.😀

They are promising 4 extra public holidays, so that would be 200 extra days off if you are an employee.

Many labour voters won't benefit from that proposal anyway! Another policy from the sixth form handbook.

Many might personally not benefit, but the majority of them who do work for an employer would benefit personally, as the majority of their votes come from people who work for employers.
Many of the test of us who work for employers would benefit too, personally.

Which will count as part of a businesses' current holiday provision, so no one will actually get any more days off, but it sounds good until you think it through. Many people work bank holidays anyway, so still won't benefit.

Also whilst you are enjoying your extra holiday, if you are on over 26,000 a year your taxes will rise significantly to pay for the other sixth form policies, so you won't be able to afford to do anything on these extra bank holidays anyway!

The extra public holidays will be in addition to current provision of holiday entitlement. Those who work public or any holdays will get these days off in lieu or the same arrangement as they get now, so they will benefit as they too will end up with either extra money or extra time off for the four days.

The economy does very well off people having extra days off work, so in the end fir this particular Labour pledge, it should not require any extra taxes to pay for it. Most of the burden of paying for the extra holidays will come down to Private employers anyway, but they benefit from their staff being more productive in the tie they are in.

So individuals, unless an employer should not be any worse off, and any employer is free still to open their business on a public holiday, and take in customers on these days.
