Phil Brown 14:23 - May 20 with 3356 views | scarrow | On 5 live talking League 1 wages. What ruins clubs is when clubs go chasing promotion and start paying 5k, 6k, 8k a week on long contracts which some clubs are doing. It's bound to go wrong eventually.

Phil Brown on 14:55 - May 20 with 3234 views | 442Dale | Brown said that with a straight face? In their last game they had the following forwards in their squad: Simon Cox, Marc-Antoine Fortune, Zavon Hines, Frank Nouble and Theo Robinson (who he signed mid-season!) Add to that the previous week Nile Ranger had played and the experienced David Mooney has been out injured.

He said it was £8.6 million - but then said "if we were promoted we'd spend more than that in wages"!

See, that's the problem. They don't HAVE to pay stupid wages. Yes, the wage budget can increase but if we went up we could double it and still make good money, whilst relying on Hill constructing a squad to keep us up.

but were any of them on long contracts? You can survive with high wages for players provided the commitment isnt long term, unless you are in the NFL were no contracts are 'guarenteed' which seems to make a mockery of the term contract.

Who knows, but anyone who can collect players like that and then whine about what other teams pay should really think how lucky they are in reality.

It was a while ago now, but Hilly said he'd need a budget of at least an extra £2m, probably £3m, to make us competitive in the championship That's still a great deal for us, but much, much less than what his (so-called) peers are saying [Post edited 20 May 2017 16:32]

Sheffield United's lge 1 wage bill was £10 million! Staggering amounts quoted around some of our competitors.

Phil Brown on 12:31 - May 26 with 1255 views | D_Dale | As for Tommy Cannon, he owes £800k, after 'a lavish lifestyle': 'In the 1980s, he [Cannon] and Bobby Ball attracted TV audiences of 20million, which afforded them a lavish lifestyle. They bought matching Rolls-Royces, beachfront homes in the Canary Islands, and cabin cruisers. Cannon even bought the Rochdale football club.' http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2017/05/19/36558/tommy_cannon_declared_bankrupt
