Totally agree with you, in much what you say. The thing about Libya and Iraq, is that Ghaddaffi and Hussain, both kept the fundamentalists under control, as they both ran secular governments. Hussain's right hand man Tariiq Assis was a Christian. In fact in both countries, not only Christians but other religions as well as non religious people, were left alone, and unlike nowadays were not attacked. However the western powers did not like those two people,as they refused to allow the west to run the oil, and didn't trade in dollars. The bastard that committed this heinous, cowardly crime came from one of the opposition forces of Libya, hard line fundamentalists who want to make their form of religion all powerful at the expense of other Muslims and other religions. I simply don't understand why this bastard holds so much resentment against Britain, especially when this country was part of the coalition that got rid of their sworn enemy Ghaddifi.

No one is trying to say they were on par with Mother Thresea....but then neither were/are Mugabe, Botha,........I could go on for several pages. Our leaders believed they had the right to take military action against soverign countries. Should they (we) not have expected some sort of backlash and planned accordingly both for the backlash and what would fill the void they created? More people are killed in Iraq and Libya today than our one time friends Saddam and Gadaffi ever managed.
If you want to change behaviour you need to first try to understand behaviour. Why do people do such evil things as occurred in Manchester on Monday and what can be done to reduce the likelihood of others wanting to do such things? We cant hope to answer the second without addressing the first much as it might be horribly frustrating. The approach seemed to work in bringing to an end the atrocities during the irish troubles, only after many years and much loss of life trying the alternative approach. Without going into every point the comparison to the IRA is not far from zero,you can't reason with these animals they are absolutely brain washed to an extent there is no understanding or reasoning with them....one things certain and thats the country can't keep tabs on the alleged 3000+ of these lunatics and that number needs reducing and rapidly.

Just a thought re keeping tabs on those suspected of plotting: could their names not be published? Or some kind of (Rebecca's ?) Law whereby people could apply to find out if anyone dodgy is living in their midst. If we don't have enough police resources to keep an eye on these types I'm sure local communities would help out. |  |

No. His name was on a list of over 3,000 'people of interest' who were/had been flagged up either by Police or security services. Enquiries had take place into his activities, relationships, contacts etc.. but he was not 'currently' being actively investigated.
The same could apply to any of the other named individuals on that or any other list. These enquiries aren't exclusively investigated by Police. They are only one of many agencies, here and abroad, used to collate information and gather intelligence.
The Brirish authorities are widely regarded as the best in the world when it comes to anti-terrorism investigation. The UK has been at the forefront of this kind of thing for decades. We have been a major world player in the prevention and detection of terrorism here and abroad. The recent attacks in France, Belgium and elsewhere have been successfully concluded, with major iput and intelligence provided by UK Police and Government.
It is a sad fact, that for all the attacks foiled and all those 'rounded-up' and arrested as suspects, only one terrorist has to 'get lucky' to wreak carnage. It will always be the same. |  |

Regarding, terrorism, one of the reports I saw, the police were calling it a terrorist attack, however it's sometimes hard to know when such an incident is .
The Oxford English Dictionary says of terrorism,
The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.
‘the fight against terrorism’
‘international terrorism’.
So I suppose if the authorities in USA will determine whether or not they will class it as a domestic terrorist attack.
