Seriously underwhelmed by this signing

Thank god! I was worried about all this "In Hilly We Trust" guff. It might break the spell. What we need is more of these comments. The type we saw when Keane, O'Grady etc signed.

Very good listen - found part one and part two links tweeted out and just finished pt. 2.

Is the jigsaw going to be on sale in the club shop?

You say that after every signing.

How do you explain four seasons involving a promotion and three top nine finishes in League One?

It must be a fluke.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Only played 7 games for bury, Strange Barry might be on with a few comments.

Played for Barnsley........was Hilly in command then?

As requested.

First thing to say is that unlike some of the other KH "broken toy" players you have had there is no attitude problem. He is a good pro, he will always work hard, however he is technically very limited. There is no getting away from that.

He is beaten too easily in the air for someone his size and isn't very quick, however in a funny way it helps that he knows he is limited - he is less likely than some to give the ball away on the edge of his own box, but neither is he likely to find too many players in space over 60 yards.

Decent crosser of the ball from deep, pretty good on set pieces most of the time, but the game can pass him by in the middle. Wouldn't have thought he is a first choice starter for you, or more to the point if you are going to match last season's heights he shouldn't be. But he played a lot of positions for us last two seasons and was not our worst performer in any of them.

Gimpoid would complain if we signed Messi.

Thanks Bazz,

Sounds like you and your lot don't rate our new boy.....did n't he take all the set pieces for bury against Dale in April?........some of which were found wanting?

If he works hard as you suggest and can play a few positions,Hilly will get him going.

He will be a decent squad player for you.

100% effort but limited. His best position for you will be playing just in front of the back 4. He hasn't got the passing ability to play midfield week in week out and not got the footballing brain to be a centre back in a 4 but you would get away with it with a 5. You really wouldn't want him playing the ball out from the back. He is safety first though which as Barry said, actually works for him to a degree because he does know his limitations so doesn't try what he can't do. He will be a nuisance, win some tackles and lump it forward to safety. If you went 1 up front then he would suit and extra man in the middle. You would just be light if he was in a midfield 4 because he doesn't offer enough technical ability. Give him a free position in the middle and he would be fine.

He hasn't got a bad disciplinary record by any means but every time he goes in for a tackle you fear he is going to get sent off. He has an awkward clumsy look about him which is difficult to explain until you see it. Maybe it is just that he is a tall athletic player and if he slightly mistimes (albeit still effective) it can look worse than it is. I personally like the fact he will put his foot in 100%.

Hill won't improve him technically (concrete in his boots springs to mind) but he will give you reliable cover for several positions. Decent signing because he will save you having to sign 2 or 3 squad players as cover because of his versatility.

He does take the free kicks from deep floating them into the box, some of which are excellent. I suppose the law of averages means some will reach their intended destination. They are either excellent or awful, there is no in-between with him which is really unusual.

I actually like him a lot and think he is very good in that holding role. He's just ok in the other roles but is far from being awful as some on the BFC site suggest. He was better than some of the so called superior players like Mellis because of his effort alone. He will be solid enough cover for your starting 11.
