If the incident was due to provocation and therefore they know which buttons to press to make him reacted putting him on the bench might be a wise choice.

Hypothetical question for Oldham fans.

Who would you boo more, Lee Hughes or Calvin Andrew?

Fully expect him to be booed tremendously tomorrow, challenge for the Oldham lot is to keep it up from first touch to last.

Think we'd be reacting in exactly the same way, and no explanations about how it was out of character and a total one off would suffice. It'll be a tough afternoon but one that Hilly will have prepared him for.

Yep, agree 100% with that.

Hope he can take it with the mentality of a pantomime villain and play the game without it affecting him too much.

Somewhat ironic that out of Clarke and Andrew - Calvin is the one who ended up missing games with a broken cheekbone!

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Personally the only reason I'd consider leaving him out is if Davies played instead - purely for footballing reasons rather than anything to do with October's shocking incident. Hill will know whether Calvin will be mentally ready for the reaction he'll receive tomorrow more than anyone, and he'll make the decision. From inferring some degree of Calvin's character from interviews and how he conducts himself on the pitch, I think it's fairly clear he'll play tomorrow and be focused fully on playing and winning a football match - as he has done for us for the entirety of the season barring October's incident.

As has been mentioned already on this thread, the Oldham fans will give him hell, just as we would if the situation were reversed. However, I don't envisage Clarke will go looking for any form of retribution besides winning the match. If the story is true that he actually defended Andrew when asked to write a statement then that's telling of his character too - a professional. As for his teammates, who knows.

Now we've had a few months to look back on it, Calvin's assault was properly awful. Pretty much GBH in broad daylight. Could have hurt the player much worse than he did. If you or I did that to anyone, you'd be looking at the inside of Strangeways.

As we know Calvin is a great asset in our defending when heading the ball. He has a fantastic work rate but he can make mistakes at the back. Hilly will have impressed on him the necessity to stay on the pitch and take anything that is coming to him, to be a punch bag, then we will win in terms of gaining free-kicks, bookings for Oldham players ,etc, etc. This match is NOT about that incident, and we can't afford to be dragged into it, but it is about 3 points, and about Andrew not getting a red therefore playing against Bradford to maintain our push for 6th place, if the Footballing God's are up for it. In his latest interview Hilly talks about his admiration for Sheridan. It seems that they are on good terms and I am sure both managers are singing from the same hymn sheet regarding the Clarke incident and it's affect on the game today. Surely both managers want a "fair", honest, contest.

Let's hope Premiership ref Friend has a good one.

Up The Dale !!!!!!!!

It's as you describe it Camden, but we were clear-eyed about it at the time

Calvin's ban was served and he's been otherwise exemplary

As YTD just said, if Oldham want to get into a lather about it, let's Stay Calm and Play The Game
