Bags of football
at 22:11 29 Nov 2023

Managed to notch up another ground last night at Vicarage Lane, Watford V Norwich City.

Bitterly cold, so took a back pack with the usual flask/sarnies/blanket/personal effects, but at the turnstile was told I couldn't enter the ground with a bag larger than A4 size. Backpack had to be deposited at another site in the ground, with a limited post match window in which to collect it. Flask of tea was not permitted to be carried into the ground.

Has anyone else had such an experience? Am I to be grateful for such inspired security, or has the football world got too big for it's boots (and bags)?

Don’t you think that it’s about time that the rules are changed governing Relegation/Promotion between League 2 and the National League.

Seriously, now that so many former league clubs are in the National League?

In fact, whilst we are about it, we can rename the National League as League Division Three?

I mean, it’s opens up league footbsll to a wider audience…….

So do we have huge club? Or is the club shop on the very large size? Or is it me, a rather large pedant?

Any more grammar police out there?

Non footballer celebrities at Spotland
at 12:23 11 Jun 2016

Going with missus to Elton John concert this evening at Grace Road- does anyone remember seeing him at Spotland in Directors box in the ? 1970's home to Watford. Bleak Winter's Tuesday evening, certainly stood out amongst the crowd (him, not me).

Who's the 'biggest' celebrity you've seen at Spotland?

Football monogomy
at 20:16 3 May 2016

Having lived and worked in the City of Leicester for more than 25 years, I was absolutely thrilled to celebrate the Foxes magnificant title win last night. This despite being a Daley to my core, having followed the Dale since the age of 5 years old.
Which has led me to think- am I being unfaithful? Is it possible to love more than one club, am I a degenrate football polygamist?
Does anyone else feel guilty about have ' a bit on the side'?

Back home
at 19:21 9 Apr 2016

Two things to say about today's game, first I've been to all season.

I've read on this site about Donal, but you've actually got to see him play to see the magician he is. Worth the trip alone to see his trickery, I still can't work out what he did at times and he was only just in front of me at times on the touchline.

Also, Bunney is an entirely different player to the one I remember. It wasn't just the goal he scored, but his overall contribution was superb. He should have scored a second just before half time, but rather selflessly passed it out wide when it probably would have been easier to shoot at goal. Hugely improved player, a real asset.

A very pleasing performance of course, Up the Dale!

Oh, and the Foxes still, unbelievably, look like they might win the title. I've yet to meet anyone in Leicester who actually believes they will!

Another one just gets back to Leicester
at 23:14 18 Mar 2014

Third time seen the Dale play this season, and I have to say wow! what a team performance!
I know Northampton were poor, but as KH pointed out last week, teams facing relegation can be desperate and hard to beat, yet not for one minute did the Dale allow the opposition the remotest of chances of getting anything from the game.
Highlights of the game were the fact that we looked skillfull, worked extremely hard, and even when Lund was sent off, we never looked in any trouble. In fact, when we were 3 up, Hendo had a great chance for number 4 (just shot wide of the post), and then Vincenti (I think) hit the post after brilliant work by Hendo again.
Standout performances were by Lund (until he got sent off- didn't see why, he just seemed to be celebrating his goal?), Hendo's skill on the ball was just sublime, and that kid Allen was unplayable tonight- I would be amazed if he doesn't end up in the Premiership in a few years time. But then again, Cav was a constant battler in front of the defence, never stopped running and chasing, the central defenders were rock solid with every header, Raff was cool, calm and collected at the back, and the runs from Done had their defence in panic much of the evening. Oh, and Bunney was brilliant, fighting for possession, clever flicks and a superbly taken goal when we were 10 men down ( the ball through to him was inch, no millimeter, perfect, ? Hendo). And by the way, Vincenti took Lund's role in central midfield extremely well when Lund was sent off.
Oh, and Lillis- he could have brought the Times crossword to work on for the evening for all the work the defence left him to do.
People of Rochdale- you/we have a great team to support, and on this showing...., no, I daren't say it, the FGs are certainly watching....
Up the Dale from Leicester.

BBC Final Score

Did anyone else notice this?

Listening to Dale Player and watching BBC Final Score on mute (standard Saturday afternoon for me) and the Dale/Torquay final result came on a good 30 seconds BEFORE I could hear on Dale Player that the ref blew for full time.

Either Dale Player runs half a minute behind real time, or the BBC are rather clever?

My view
at 18:31 26 Dec 2012

Not seen the team play this season, managed to get to today's game as it was fairly local.
It seems fairly straighforward to me where we are struggling. The defense was absolutely awful, I don't think anyone of them are up to the task.
We were pedestrian and clumsy, with absolutely nothing going forward from either full back, and often just booting the ball out of defense back to Burton.
So although we were able to pull back a 2-0 deficit, it seemed inevitable that Burton would score again.
This must have a very poor effect on the rest of the team, however well they play. their efforts may well be wasted.
A good team needs to be built from the back, and until we sort out defense, we will, sadly, be mid table at best.

Just got back
at 18:31 26 Feb 2011

A really poor game I thought, neither side deserved to win. I can't remember much on target for either side, some of the play was affected by bright sunshiine ( nearly forgot what that looked like) and a good proprotion of the play seemed to gravitate towards the shaded quater of the ground, especially from goal kicks in the first half.
Positives:
Unbeaten still, solid performances at the back by Dawson and Holness- they looked as good as each other I thought, so maybe we have another star in the making.
One more point towards safety.
Negatives:
Can't remember many shots on target (were there any?)
Very few overlapping runs from our full backs, perhaps more from Widdowson?
Idiot of a Dale 'supporter' giving their goalkeeper the finger when asked to throw the ball back.

Not much of a match report I'm afraid, but I don't do this for a living.

Up the Dale!

Anyone remember last time we played Charlton (showing my age)? Didn't they have a player sent off, yet we still lost?
And the last time we had a winter break? Didn't we loose the next match after the break 0-6 against Plymouth Argyle (and Argyl scored a goal from one of OUR corners)?
Ah, the bad old days..................
