Warnock's rub of the Green?
Warnock's rub of the Green?

Rumours in the East Midlands claim that Derby contract-rebel Paul Green is destined for Leeds United.

Pontefract born Green, 29, has apparently snubbed Derby's offer of a new-deal and it is reported that Nigel Clough left him out of the Rams's weekend win over doomed Pompey.

Apparently Rams' unofficial fans message boards have been buzzing with the claim that the former Doncaster Rovers man is destined for Elland Road in the summer and his soon to be out of contract situation could well make him one of the behind-the-scenes mystery signings Leeds are claiming is in the offing.

Green began his career at Doncaster, making 277 league appearances for them and scoring 33 goals. Out of contract in 2008, he made the short journey down the M1 to Pride Park and has clocked up 125 matches and 10 goals for the Rams as well as 10 caps for Ireland - who he qualifies for due to the nationality of his Grandfather.

A Derby supporting friend tells he he is one of Derby's highest wage earners and she feels it is unlikely they would have offered him anything like he got when leaving the Keepmoat. From what little I have seen of him, he looks okay - nothing extra special.

Obviously if there is any truth in it, we will know when it happens.

Meanwhile Green's Eire team-mate and fellow Yorkshireman Aidan White is being linked to Premiership sides Newcastle and (only just) Bolton.
