League One Scunthorpe United are interested in signing full back Joe Widdowson following his recent release from the club.

It was Widdowson's release which perhaps raised the most eyebrows when the retained list was made public a couple of weeks ago, and it seems that he may well be remaining within League One. 

Scunny boss Alan Knill has admitted that he has spoken to Widdowson and his agent, and they are hopeful that a deal can be put together. Having spent a couple of years previously at Grimsby, it would be a return to an area where he first attracted Dale's attention.

Dale were linked with Accrington's Dean Winnard at the weekend as a possible replacement for Widdowson.
