Roberts A No - Palmer A Yes?

Roberts has already stated that he was unlikely to drop a couple of divisions, even with the potential opportunity of a number 2 role to new Swans boss Kenny Jackett. "Moving to a lower division club would be a big drop. No disrespect to the Second and Third Divisions, but I still feel I can do a job in the First. With eight goals in 14 starts last season I think I can still perform." he said last week when quizzed over a move to the Vetch.

However, he was impressed with what was on offer to him at Gillingham and believes that he still has the capability to add something to a side that avoided relegation only on goal difference last season.

"I have heard what they had to say and it was very interesting, well worth thinking about. I still want to play as many games as I can next season because I feel I can, and Gillingham might be able to give me that opportunity." said Roberts after his weekend talks.

And with Jackett's former boss Ian Holloway giving a 'hands off' warning to his former coach over the weekend, it now seems as if Kenny is to be forced elsewhere in his search for new talent for the squad for next season in what we all hope will be a promotion season in time for the move to White Rock.

Holloway was adamant that Jackett would not take any of his newly promoted squad despite newspaper reports linking him to several of the players he worked with at Loftus Road. "Not in a million years is Paul (Furlong) going to want to go back two divisions and accept Third Division wages." said Holloway,

"The squad we've managed to get together is one I'm proud of. A lot of work needs to be done to secure that squad."

However, it does seem increasingly likely that R's defender Steve Palmer will follow Jackett to the Vetch, having previously played under him at both Watford and QPR. Palmer is keen for a move into coaching and the offer of a role which combines that with playing may be too much for the veteran defender to turn down.

Swans fans will be disappointed at the lack of a big name in Palmer although Jackett is also believed to be looking at building a more in depth coaching staff at the Vetch meaning that we could yet see further names added to this over the course of the summer.
