The Whispering Campaign Goes On
The Whispering Campaign Goes On

As the saga drags on, those close to it report they have never known such a whispering campaign.

Obviously the internet has made it much easier for football supporters to communicate and express their opinions and certainly at Southampton Football Club we have had more of our fair share of internet rumours etc, however we do seem to have a higher level of intensity than just about every other club, certainly the Glazers at Man Utd or buyers at other clubs didnt feel it necessary to promote themselves on internet message boards.

It has created an "In the know" culture where some supporters are hungrier for news and rumour than tabloid reporters with the race being on to publish it on the net first and have some sort of kudos.

After the days of Wilde it was hoped that this frezy was a thing of the past but sadly it seems not, speaking to several members of our local press over the last week, it seems that even when Pinnacle signed the exclusitivity deal, many both near and far from the situation were not prepared to let things run there course.

Hence we have had rumour after rumour regarding Pinnacle and most of them derogatory about their ability to fund the deal, of course the argument about the points deduction has only fuelled matters with certain parties working overtime to convince supporters and the media that Pinnacle are tin pot.

What is to be gained is hard to see, although from some quarters it could be Pinnacle pulling out paving the way clear for a rival bid to succeed.

The national media are aware of it too and are incredulous as the the intensity of it.

Personally Im sick of the whole situation, I want people running the football club who are businessmen, people who keep their business dealings private until they have been done, who focus on their own business plans rather than getting embroiled in internet whispers, to date pinnacle in the main have conducted themselves in a businesslike manner, lets hope they continue to do so if the takeover should happen, however the same cannot be said of many other people.
