Neil Taylor still believes the FAW should have overturned his semi final red card

The Swansea City defender saw red in the first minute of the Swans play off semi final against Nottingham Forest and the resulting three match ban will keep him out of Monday's final.

The Swans appealed the red card but the FAW said there was no grounds to overturn it leaving the youngster heartbroken at missing out on the showpiece game.

Taylor told the Western Mail “After looking at the video again I don’t understand why the FAW didn’t overturn the red card

“I actually won the ball and it ricocheted back off him, there was the player’s reaction and the fact the ref played on, which suggested he hadn’t seen a foul. So there was all sorts going on.

“There’s mixed emotions because obviously I would rather be with Swansea preparing for Wembley.

“But this is the next best thing because it takes my mind off what I’m missing and there’s the chance for me to play a game or two for Wales.

“Hopefully I’ll watch my Swansea teammates do the business on Monday.

“It’s been an unbelievable season for me, a bit of a whirlwind in fact,” he said.

“But I settled in really well and the lads have been great with me.

“We have a great team spirit, which is shown by what we have achieved so far, and hopefully come the end of the season we will all be Premiership players.

“I’ve played over 30 games, most of which were in the league. So I’ve been pleased with that considering it’s been my first season in the Championship.

“That’s all down to the gaffer and he has made me feel part of the team. He kept picking me and I’ve managed to hold my spot down.

“I didn’t know what to expect or what to be afraid of even so I just took it in my stride.

“I’m comfortable with the style of football Swansea play and it’s been good for me.

“It’s happened really quickly, but I managed to settle in at that level quite quickly.

“If we manage to go up it will crown an incredible year for me – one that I don’t think I’ll be able to take in for a while yet.

“Now my aim is to play in the Premiership and to become a regular, both for my club and for Wales,” he said.

“I have to be confident I can do that and hopefully I will have many years of international football ahead as well.

“I have been in the squad a few times but I have only had one appearance so far, against Croatia last year.

“Since then the new gaffer (Speed) has come in with fresh ideas and a very much more professional feel.

“I just hope I can impress him when I get my chance this week.

“These games are always important because it means playing for Wales.”
