Fylde v Dale: match preview
Wednesday, 9th Jul 2014 10:00 by Col

Our lowdown on everything you wanted to know about AFC Fylde but couldn't be bothered to ask.

Who are ya? AFC Fylde or Kirkham & Wesham F.C. as they used to be known. They changed their name a back in 2008,and that has spurred them on to further success. They’ll be playing in the Conference North next season which is the highest level they’ve ever been at as far as I can tell. They’ve already started their pre-season with a 4-1 win against Kendal last weekend.

What’s the ground like? It’s brand new and is in the village of Warton. They moved to their purpose built ground that was opened in 2006. The capacity is 2,250 and their record crowd is just 1400 when they hosted FCUM in 2012. They’ll be hosting Stockport County for a league game in November.

Finest moment: winning the FA Vase back in 2007, beating Lowestoft Town 2-1. Part One and Part Two.

The gaffer: Dave Challinor. Dale fans will remember him as a lower league Danny Higginbotham who was noted for his long throws. Aside from that he was a decent centre half in his day, though he was a target for the boo boys at Gigg Lane in his latter days. He’s been boss at Fylde for three years npw having previously been in charge at Colwyn Bay.

Fancy a drink? The ground is pretty much situated at the back of the Birley Arms, and you’d be hard pushed to get to the ground by any other way. It does food and has won awards apparently. Its website that be found here. It has its own caravan club next door but don’t believe everything Jay from the Inbetweeners says.

Fylde’s Famous Five

Ian Donaldson — Nazi singer

Andy Summers — friend of Sting
