Report: Macc 0 Dale 2
Tuesday, 29th Jul 2014 23:53 by Col

A Dale team consisting of fringe players and trialists picked up a 2-0 win at the Moss Rose.

It was largely a forgettable game on the whole, but most of the eyes were on the two trialists who turned out for Dale this evening.

Up front, we had Yeovil's Adam Morgan who has been told to find a new club. The former Liverpool man has had a trial match for Chesterfield recently before injury curtailed that trial.

In a defensive midfield position, we had David Fox, who's Dad used to be our goalkeeping coach many moons ago, and was one of Keith Hill's last signings whilst at Barnsley.

The starting line up was Lillis, Bennett, Rose, Eastham, McGinty, Fox, Cannon, Vincenti, Logan, Camps, Morgan.

In the Macc side was Danny Whittaker who seems to have been playing against us for his entire career, and a certain Matthew Barnes Homer up front. What were we thinking?

We weren't great in the first half, and looked a bit shakey at the back despite the clean sheet. There was poor finishing by the Silkies, but they did have the aforementioned MBH.

The difference between the two sides on the night, were two moments of class from Callum Camps. Our opening goal saw him loft the ball over to Rhys Bennett at the back post who looped a header over the Macc keeper, and the second saw him think he was Ian Henderson by moving the ball past defender after defender before chipping the keeper. The lad has potential.

That potential saw him withdrawn at half time, with the wonderfully named Nuha Jabbi brought on, and I swear the away end spent the first minute googling rather than watching the game, before eventually word reached of a past spell at Mansfield. It brought memories of Stalybridge away last season where for at least two minutes we thought we had Arturo Vidal on trial with us.

We looked more solid in the second half, and definitely more comfortable at the back. We had BBM (or BM acc to the tannoyman) come on late on to give us a reminder of his talents. It's a real shame we got BBM as late in his career as we did.

Next stop JD.
