Northern Ire-Lund
Tuesday, 11th Nov 2014 15:18 by Col

Dale midfielder Matty Lund becomes the fifth Dale player to be called up to play full international football with a call up to the Northern Ireland squad for this weekend's Euro 2016 qualifier in Romania.

The former Northern Ireland U21 international has been called up for this Friday's qualifier in Romania as Northern Ireland look to continue their strong start to the group which has seen them win three games out of three. They sit top of their group and with the top two qualifying, the current British Home Nations Champions are hoping to reach their first ever European Championship finals.

Out of the previous four internationals, three of them have been for Northern Ireland. Lee McEvilly was our first international, beating Paddy McCourt by a matter of fourteen minutes when he came on as a sub against a Spain side that included Puyol and Raul. Rory McArdle also won caps for Northern Ireland whilst registered at Dale.

The downside of this news is that Lund will miss this weekend's trip to Port Vale, and with Dale already missing the suspended Ian Henderson, it will be a selection headache for Dale boss Keith Hill. Jamie Allen has missed the last two games through injury and it is hoped that he will be fit for the trip to Burslem on Saturday.
