Tate Set For Crewe?

Former Swansea City star Alan Tate could well be set for a return to Crewe Alexandra following a successful loan spell last season according to Steve Davis their manager.

Tate was released from the Swans at the end of last season after a 13 year association and is seeking a new club and he was a key member of the Crewe side last season until an ankle injury sidelined him and cut short his loan spell.

Davis wants to add some experience to his squad and hopes that he has enough funds in his kitty to be able to secure the services of Tate.

He told the club’s official web-site: “I have kept in contact with Alan and I think he has expressed an interest about coming here if we can sort something out. I told him that my priority has to be on the midfield area and a new left-back at the moment. Any money I do have has to be spent on improving us in those areas.

“I would also need another goalkeeper if Scott (Shearer) was to leave but Alan is one we would consider because I could do with another centre-half. He fits the bill. We would want an experienced one there, who can help the young ones, like he did for us last season. He had that real calming influence and would be one the younger ones would go to.

“Alan has great experience and he knows what this club is about. He settled in really well and was great around the place. He is the type we would want to add to the squad but much would depend on what I have left in the budget.

He added: “All we can do is see how it goes but if financially we could do then we would be interested in Tatey, because he has the right character.”
