Dale head to Maidstone in the FA Cup
Monday, 17th Oct 2016 19:49 by Col

Dale have been drawn away at non league Maidstone United in the first round of the FA Cup.

To save you visiting Wikipedia, here's our five minute guide to Maidstone

* They play at the Gallagher Stadium. It holds just over 3,000. It has a plastic pitch but it's considered one of the better ones. It was called a magnificent surface by former Brighton boss Gus Poyet. However, they plan to replace in soon as they continue their ascent up the (non) leagues.

* Maidstone United had a famous FA Cup win over Stevenage a couple of years ago after victory in a replay thanks to a couple of goals by Frannie Collin.

* Based on previous matches at the ground, it's likely to be all ticket with around 500-600 tickets available for Dale supporters. We're likely to be in the North Stand - a terrace behind one of the goals, with a handful of seats made available as well.

* Maidstone went bust back in 1992 which gave our season something of an impetus after previously falling away. However, it was all in vain in the end as we missed out on the Play Offs. The new version of Maidstone play in the National League and sit currently in 17th above Torquay and York. We were the last Football League team that they beat before they folded.

* A trip to Maidstone will be a round trip of over five hundred miles for Dale supporters.

The game is expected to take place on Saturday 5th November.
