It had been expected that Donal McDermott would be joining his former club Chesterfield but they have pulled the plug on the deal.

it had been suggested that an announcement would be made on Friday originally and then Tuesday, but they have announced today that an offer to an unknown player has been withdrawn, with reports from local radio confirming that player was McDermott.

McDermott was offered a deal by Dale at the end of the season - a move seen as surprising in some quarters after a season in which McDermott struggled to hold down a first team place after an impressive first season at the club.

Keith Hill had confirmed that McDermott had offers from elsewhere, and it was widely thought he would take up one of those offers at Chesterfield. But in withdrawing the offer, Chesterfield company secretary Ashley Carson stated We are looking for players who show a passionate desire to play for Chesterfield. This player clearly did not demonstrate that so we had to take the decision to end our interest in him."
