Interview with a Peterborough fan
Interview with a Peterborough fan
Thursday, 31st Jan 2008 17:23

As is usually the case before a match we interview an opposition fan as part of the build up. This time it's Nick Jackson's turn to give us his view from a Peterborough perspective.

1) Who are you, and how long you been following Peterboro?

Hi there, My names Nick, I’m 18 years old and have been a lifelong Peterborough United fan. My dad got me watching posh from a young age, and I have been lucky enough to have watched our free-flowing Brazil like football for around 13 years!

2) How you finding League Two this season?

League 2 was always going to be difficult to get out of, despite what anyone says. There are a number of good teams in this league but also a lot of very poor teams. We've been pretty steady throughout the season, and went through a bit of a rough patch through December, but hopefully we can start to push on now and challenge for automatic promotion.

3) Given the amount of money that you have spent and continue to spend, why aren't you already promoted?

Well, this is very difficult to answer. As I've already said, this league is very difficult to get out of however much money you spend. We have bought a lot of good footballers, but the problem is, in this league there are a lot of very physical teams. We seem to struggle against physical teams, especially away from home, but we play well against teams that like to get the ball down and play, like ourselves. This is why we haven't already been promoted, but hopefully, by May, we will be there or there-abouts.

4) Has Fergie Jnr done a decent job or is he just trading off his Dad's name?

Darren's brought a very different style of football to what we had been used to under Keith Alexander and Barry Fry. He likes to get the ball down and play and has made a number of good signings. A few people at Posh are still unsure about him, but I think he is definitely the best man for the job and is capable of getting us promoted.

5) What's Barry Fry's role at Peterborough these days?

He is Director of Football, but can often be found behind the Burger Van! No, he is the man who is behind all our transfer activity, and in that respect, he has done a very good job.

6) What can we expect of Peterborough this weekend, and who should we look out for?

Well, this is a very difficult question, because we have been barely able to find 16 fit players. There is talk down here of Fergie getting his boots back on. A number of key players are out such as Micah Hyde, Charlie Lee, Chris Whelpdale and Keiron Charnock. But expect a good footballing side and of course look out for our strike trio of Craig Mackail-Smith, Aaron Mclean and George Boyd who have already scored 50 goals between them this season.

7) We've got Rene Howe on loan. What are your thoughts on him from his limited time with Posh?

He was absolutely dire. He came with a bit of pressure on his shoulders to emulate Mackail-Smith and Mclean in making an immediate impact in the football league but he just wasn't up to it. Maybe you can get the best out of him.

8) What are your memories of games against Dale?

I don't really recall any very exciting games against Rochdale. Obviously there was the 3-3 draw on the last day of the season which was very eventful. Apart from that I can only really remember the 3-0 on the first day of the season.

9) Finally, who's going up this season and who's going down?

Automatic promotion: Darlington, MK Dons, Peterborough

Play Off Winners : Rochdale

Relegation: Dag and Red, Mansfield

and just so you know, I think you will beat us 2-1 on Saturday.
