Widdowson becomes 2nd Summer signing Tuesday, 22nd Jun 2010 16:49 by Col Dale boss Keith Hill has made Grimsby Town left back Joe Widdowson his second signing of the Summer, after the former West Ham defender signed on at Spotland. With Tom Kennedy off to pastures new in the Championship, there was a big gap at left back, and on Tuesday, Keith Hill has made filled that vacancy with the signing of Grimsby Town full back Joe Widdowson. As the picture suggests, Widdowson began his career at West Ham United, before joining Grimsby Town initially on loan. That move was made permanent after impressing on loan, with Widdowson signing a three year contract with the Mariners. The six foot tall 21 year old was pretty much a regular in the Grimsby side over the past season, playing in all but a handful of Town's games, but following their relegation, Widdowson was allowed to be released from his contract, and that was when Dale swooped for his services. The signing puts an end to speculation that Dale were looking to sign Bury's Rochdale born left back David Buchanan on a free transfer.
