Ex Files - Shane Cansdell Sherriff Tuesday, 31st Jul 2007 17:25
I can't think of any other Aussies who have played for Rochdale over the years, and I'm not counting Mike Veletta.

Shane became one of the biggest names
to have played for Rochdale when he signed on a month's loan, though you
don't need me to finish off the obvious gag about his surname fitting onto
the back of his shirt!
Anyway, Shane joined Dale in November 2002 when we were undergoing a bit of
a defensive crisis with results at a real low. He came into make his full
debut away at Oxford United, and impressed all those who travelled down with
his classy play.
Unfortunately, whilst Dale boss Simpson was trying to negotiate a season
long loan with Leeds to secure Cansdell-Sherriff's services, the Australian
picked up a knee injury which required a spell under the doctor's knife.
So alas, SCS's brief time at Dale came to a premature end, as he returned to
Leeds United with a total of just four Dale games to his name.
After his spell with Dale, he played
for a while in Denmark and has represented Australia at the Olympic Games.
He joined Tranmere in the Summer of 2006 and has since dropped the Cansdell
part from his name.
