Saints New Shirt Flies Out Of The Shops
Mon 02nd Jul 2012 08:45

Whatever the views on the new home shirt, judging by the queues outside the West Quay megastore on Sunday its popular with some.

Its fair to say that views have been mixed about the new Saints home kit,  dont thinkmany dislike the design, but judging by comments across the internet and other conversations I have had, the feeling is that its just not Saints, not just the lack of stripes, but the fact that by having red shorts, it looks more like Liverpool than Saints, indeed one wag commented to me that when comparing it to Liverpools new kit for the forthcoming season, it looks more like Liverpool than Liverpool themselves.

But all of these comments aside a trip to the Club's megastore in West Quay on Sunday showed one thing and thats that it seems popular with a great number of supporters judging by the queues outside the shop, I went there at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon and there must have been a constant queue of around 150, a decent number seeing the store had opened for business 3 1/2 hours earlier.

Of course there are those die hards that will buy the shirt on the opening day, whatever its design or colour and cynics will say that this would be the reason for the opening day rush, to a degree thats true and certainly or promotion to the Premiership will bring a few people scurrying out of the woodwork and indeed new supporters and these people need something to align themselves with their passion for next season, however this cannot gloss over the actual number of shirts that were being physically sold, whether it will be as popular as last season's or indeed the sash kit, we will have to wait and see, but Sunday saw it get off to a flying start.

We`ll all be watching Saints play in Liverpools kit next season!. I`d love to know the reasons this kit was chosen. Are the marketing people looking to re-brand Saints ?. This is for sure :The people who chose this are not Saints supporters, why choose another teams kit !. Our tradition has been completley thown out of the window. All the top clubs (we all know who they are) would never do this to their supporters, they know what side their breads buttered. I`d love to see the other kit designs by Umbro that were tuned down. To end on a positive note : I`m quite happy with the socks & the away kit is fine (though I`d prefer yellow & blue).

Like it, nice to break from tradition once in a while and definitely prefer to the sash. Would look much better though with black shorts and white socks. Not sure all red is a good idea.
