12 Hour Football Marathon In Aid Of Winchester Young Carers
Tue 24th Jul 2012 14:51

If you can spare a few pounds perhaps you could do so for this worthy cause in Winchester.

Winchester Young Carers improve the lives of children and young people with caring responsibilities by providing safe, quality support to individuals and offering an inclusive, wide ranging, and holistic approach which considers the needs of the whole family.

Some friends of this website are taking part in a charity five a side football match on August 5th to raise money for the cause, whilst they might not be known to many of you on here, they are looking to boost their total and hope that some of you in the Winchester area and beyond might find a small donation via their just giving page below.

The good news is that basepoint will match any donation made so effectively doubling the money.  www.basepoint.co.uk

The event will take place on Saturday 5th August starting at 6am at the University of Winchester Sports hall and obviously ending at 6pm. The Mayor of Winchester will be arriving at 5.30pm to witness the end of the marathon.

There will be a raffle for those who come along to watch and Sainsbury's should be thanked for providing food and drink for the participants.

The Winchester area group of Young Carers for those of you that are unaware of their work aim to offer support to those youngsters who through various circumstances find themselves needing to spend time caring for a relative etc, therefore taking out a lot of time that they might otherwise spend in leisure activities as other youngsters may do. It offers them not only practical help and support in the strenuous task of caring for a loved one, but opportunities for activities and trips that they might not otherwise be able to afford, help in eductation and of course a shoulder to cry on when things get a bit too much.

More information about them can be found below

If you can spare only a small amount it would be gratefully appreciated both by the guys plaing in the football marathon but the Winchester Young Carers Group itself.

Basepoint.co.uk deserve a mention as any proceeds raised will be matched by them.

I've tried to find out where this is, or is it being played behind closed doors..?
