Saints Must Learn To Close Out Games Sun 09th Sep 2012 10:55
Adam Lallana speaking along with Danny Fox on Soccer AM on Saturday spoke of how Saints are working to stop the late goals being conceded.
Saints goals conceded column makes worrying reading with 8 in it after only 3 games, however that doesnt tell the full story, the two late Man Utd goals adding to another two conceded in the opening games in the final ten minutes, meaning that half of the total number conceded have been in the final portion of the game, given Saints reputation for fitness last season its a sharp reminder that Premier League fitness is in another gear from the Championship. Adam Lallana speaking on Soccer AM said "Four minutes of added time against United feels like 10!" "The time was rightfully put on but United always come good towards the end of the game. "I think it proves that the margin for error is that much smaller. We've just got to work on the training pitch at seeing games out. We work hard - we've just got to be more determined and concentrate towards the end of the game and we'll get there." He added: "When we got City first game [on the fixture list] we were all delighted. Obviously we didn't get the result but I thought we did well. "We've gone into the international break with no points and we're bottom of the table. We've got Arsenal away a week today so we'll be going down there definitely wanting to get a result." Wise words from Adam who also spoke of his pleasure in being mentioned in despatches by Gary Neville who spoke of how a consistent run in the Premier by a player with Lallana's skill and ability, has to put any English player in the frame for an International cap. Hopefully Lallana's dream of being capped by England will become reality and if it does then it could be good news for Saints in that his performances will have undoubtably have contributed greatly to Saints on the pitch.

So why haven't we signed some experienced premiership players to add this seasoned knowledge instead of choosing to chase expensive and quite probably talented young lads who have no experience of the top league? | 0 forum posts 144 news comments 0 match reports 0 blogs 0 polls

Exiled I'd like to think the strategy is to build-up a team for the future and not build up a team of highly paid journeymen. It's a risky strategy I admit, but if you get a good group of talented youngsters playing well together the rewards can be massive. How nice would it be for us to bring through our own homegrown players and other virtually unknown overseas youngsters and transform them into such a decent team that in future years, if we do decide to sell we can raise enough money to bring in players of a similiar cailbre. Nick, do you really believe we are unfit? I only ask because I know that fit teams seem to score late goals, but if you look at the goals we've conceded at the end of games they have just been plain and simple bad mistakes, i.e. Fox at Man City, Fonte vs Wigan and the failure to mark Ferdinand and Van Persie vs Man utd. These all point more towards concentration than fitness. | 2 forum posts 445 news comments 1 match reports 0 blogs 0 polls

Hello! Just joined, great site with normal conversation-instead of gibberish like on some of the others! Fitness is something that I've been concerned about since last year-Too many games lost or drawn in the waning moments. Not only are points important, goal differential is important too.Tired players not only make physical mistakes, they make mental ones also. You would think that with our manager being an ex-physio, ours would be the fittest team in the league! | 0 forum posts 24 news comments 1 match reports 0 blogs 0 polls | | You need to login in order to post your comments |
