Vote For Matt Le Tiss For Greatest Prem Goal Ever
Vote For Matt Le Tiss For Greatest Prem Goal Ever
Tuesday, 17th Apr 2012 10:52

A Saints legend needs your support as the Daily Telegraph looks to find the greatest ever Premiership goal aand and Le God has two goals in the top ten to choose from.

"He scores F*cking great goals" was the retort from Saints supporters in the 1990's as our opponents fans mocked the nasal features of unarguably one of the greatest players to ever pull on a Saints shirt and now two of those goals have been named in the top ten goals to be scored in the Premierships 20 year history by the Daily Telegraph and they are asking fans to vote for the best ever.

The other nominees are a whos who of the Premiership, Beckham, Cantona, Di Canio and Shearer, Yeboah, Henry, Rooney & Bergkamp but it is only Matt Le Tissier who has the honour of being nominated twice, indeed it could be said three times because one of the nominations is a double.

The first nomination is the two goals he scored against Newcastle in October 1993 at the Dell, both were classics and for them to be in the same match is typical Le Tissier.

The second in the vote is his long range effort at Ewood park against Blackburn Rovers in December 1994 that left Tim Flowers sprawled in the back of the net, Le God tells the story of how he told Flowers that he would not only score past him but hit the keepers towel wedged in the goal net, perhaps its just a good story but history shows us that Le Tissier did just that.

Voted for the Blackburn goal - which incidentally was not in 1984 - otherwise MLT would only have been about 16 and the Prem didn't start til 8 years later :o)

To be honest, Tiss could have had a top 10 of his own, but a few of my other favourites from him are:

- The brace v Newcastle at the Dell
- The flick up and volley v Wimbledon at the Dell
- 27 Seconds goal v Liverpool in the snow at the Dell
- Away to Liverpool not long after the brace v Newcastle
- Chip v Man U in the 6-3
- Last ever league goal at the Dell

The honour of being nominated twice will mean the Le Tiss vote will be split.

For me the brace against Newcastle will always typify the player. We where hardly in that game. He made the other 21 players look a bit like they where at a different match

Primarily important that fans vote on the premier league website for Le tissier goals and his midfield team slot. I found out yesterday after putting the Telegraph link up that they are NOT part of the official polls.

I personally enjoyed his chip against Man Utd the most. It was a case of the best striker of a ball to play in the Premier League overcoming the best goalkeeper to grace the Premier League (fractionally ahead of Niemi of course).
