O Brother Where Art Thou - Saints Go For Wanyama's Older Brother.
Wednesday, 30th Oct 2013 12:16

According to newspaper reports this morning, Saints are lining up a bid in the January transfer window for Victor Wanyama's brother.

Although the report cannot be described as nothing other than speculative given that there is a full two months left before the transfer window opens and someone has put two and two together.

However they don't seem to have done much research, in that the player hasn't played a competitive game since February and has undergone surgery, it would seem strange that Saints would want to sign a player who clearly is not fit and has not actually played much in the past 3 years.

McDonald Mariga at 26 is the older brother of Wanyama, although he is currently under contract to Inter Milan, whom he joined in 2010 after a move to Man City fell through when the home office would not grant him a work permit, he has not played a lot for Inter, spending much of it on loan, first at Real Sociedad in 2011/12 and then he went back to Parma on loan where in February he suffered his injury in February of this year.

It would seem strange why Saints would want to sign him in that he is described as a defensive midfield player and with not only his brother, but Cork & Schneiderlin able to play that position, not to mention the versatility of JWP or Steven Davis, its an area of the side where unless someone leaves we are well covered in, certainly Mariga appears to be no better than what we already have.

So this story is probably nothing more than the players agent trying to stir up a bit of interest with his client hopefully nearing fitness again.

I see Galatasary are strongly linked with a move for Ramirez in January as well, would say this move has more chance than Wanyamas brother...

I don't know how reliable you feel the newspapers are on transfer issues, and I don't know how you think the Mirror stands amongst them and I don't know how reliable you think the Turkish newspapers are cos that's where The Mirror got the story from.
Still if he's as good as his bro then...
