The Saints Are Back In Stripes
The Saints Are Back In Stripes
Friday, 4th Jul 2014 09:31

After a two year hiatus Saints are back in their traditional red & white stripes for the 2014/15 season with a kit that has a great design with history to the fore.

Say whatever you want about Saints last two home kits but they were not designs that immediately think of Southampton Football Club, Liverpool yes ! but Saints no !

The stripes are forever linked with us, they can be spotted a mile off and when you see a shirt with a red & white design 100 yards away you know that it could only be the shirt of a handful of clubs, the shirt of 2012/13 was nice, but it was the shirt of the Liverpool team of 1981 not that of Southampton Football Club.

Now the club has announced its new home kit for the 2014/15 season and it could not be more traditionally Saints if it tried, I am of course well known for my love of the stripes and my love of modern football kits that hark back to days of old and this kit has both of that in spades.

The shirt itself is as plain as the red & white stripes could be and has a nice red v neck harking back to the early sixties when Saints wore this design as the won promotion to the top flight for the first time in 65/66 and indeed they wore a shirt like this when they ran out in the first game of the following season our first ever at the highest level in British football.

The shorts are plain black with the only real variation on the theme being the socks, these are of a hooped design, again very early 60's, but instead of white hoops they have black.

Anyway don't take my word for it, The Stripes Are Back ! head for the clubs official website and see the kit for yourself.

Joy. Back to looking like a bunch of deckchairs again ! Maybe the away or training kits will have something better to offer.

If you like the strip from the the past 2 seasons, then perhaps you should do what Lalana, Ricky,Shaw & (probably Lovren) have done. Go to a club that will allways play in a( predominantly) red shirt. That is not Saints, we`re red & white stripes. That is our identity. Like it or do one.

Great news! And our crest in color! Team identity is very important for the players and the fans. A couple of years ago I walked into a convenience store in New Jersey wearing a fleece with the small color crest. The man behind the counter asked "Are Saints your team? We watch them in my home country, Ghana. We like them a lot!" This was when they were in the Championship! So it seems our crest and stripes has worldwide recognition.
I hate to think what he would have said if he confused me with a Laugherpool supporter!

I had a feeling this would happen and it makes total sense. New management, new faces, the upper tier want to make as much a clean slate as possible from the NC days and how better to start, than go back to the old stripes. And the fans will love it. Lovely jubly all round.

Uptoomers dear oh dear, someone rattle your cage did they !

Like it or do one lol ! Yes that's right; I change clubs each year depending on the design or colour of the kit on offer ! I just don't like the look of striped kits that's all. Grow up !

Life is just too short sometimes. To support Saints but not like the strip is an oxymoron. Though it could just be moron.
