Transfer Rumours July 10th
Thursday, 10th Jul 2014 12:36

Here we take a look a the latest transfer rumours being mooted in the media as potential signings for Saints.

The new name to be linked with Saints is Sunderland striker Connor Wickham as rumours start to circulat that attempts to sign Graziano Pelle from Ronald Koeman's previous club Feyenoord have stalled.

Wickham has hardly set the World alight since his £8.1 million move from Ipswich 3 years ago and with only a year left on his contract the Black Cats could look to off load him now for a cut price fee, preferring to receive something rather let him leave for nothing in a year.

Wickham spent much of last season on loan away from The Stadium Of Light and in one spell at Sheffield Wednesday in the middle of last season his 8 goals in only 11 games in the Championship, an unproductive spell at Leeds followed, but then he found some form on his return to Sunderland and hit 5 goals in only 3 games including both in a 2-2 draw at Man City.

In general though he has not been a succesful signing for the Wearsiders, however his flurry of goals last season suggest that at 18 when he moved to the club too much was thrust upon his young shoulders and that he might be about to mature, the question for Sunderland and the player though is whether it might be in the best interests of both to have a clean break, although for Saints he possibly would not be seen as an immediate first choice player, he could be a very good back up striker to offer Ronald Koeman some decent options off the bench.

At the other end of the pitch we are again being linked with a £8 million pound bid for Frazer Forster at Celtic, Im not so sure about this one myself in that the goalkeeper position is not a priority, some would say that we need back up for Artur Boruc and that is right, but Forster would be looking to be first choice and in that respect if he came I would not expect Boruc to want to hang around for too long as second choice.

Another report is linking us with Tours striker Andy Delort, the 22 year old scored 24 goals in 36 games in his first season for the French League 2 side, Saints will face competition with Leicester being also touted as well as French club Lens.

I really hope morgan stays with us. If he commits i think it will send a good message to the other players and also potential signings. I must add that as much as Gaston hasn't quite delivered, he has shown some class by not jumping on the bandwagon. We all know he probably wants a move and he could have easily been more vocal about it given the way Loveren has behaved. I still have hopes he could come good if we can find the right role/system for him. Finding a centre back will be the hardest, i havent rated any of the CB's we have been linked with so far. Do we have any promising centre backs coming through?

I'm not sure we need to be looking for a replacement for Boruc. If we sign someone such as Forster or Marshall surely we will find ourselves in exactly the same position as Boruc will head out: looking for a back up again. We have other areas of need imo rather than a new first choice keeper. Boruc is a quality keeper.

You don't spend £8m on an 18 year old if they do not have talent. Whickham obviously did, but had the wrong team/manager/coach to get the best out of him. Look at Jayrod, he struggled but given the chance he has flourished. I think at a cut price he's worth a punt.

Boruc is good not great, his distribution is average to poor, some of his goal line mistakes are catastrophic, but he is a great shot stopper. He has no competition and competition is good. I don't think he'll go, he's a hero in Shirley!

Apparently the Pelle transfer has stalled due to a UK work permit and he requested some time for personal family matters, would be good if it happens.

We need a LB to replace Shaw, I like the 2 dutch CBs we've been linked with Van Dyke? Celtic, and De Vrij? both look very classy. Possilby Caulker.

Midfield is already complete with the signing of Tadik. I would like to see Ramirez step up and take the chance to prove himself now AL has disgracefully left the club. He has masses of talent, but he seems to lack inspiration and determination sometimes, possibly living in ALs shadow? Davis, Wanyama, Cork, Ward Prowse need I say more?

I like the fact that we are buying foreign, saving money and buying class, as long as we continue to churn out our own home grown stars to bring in.

We will always be a selling club, but now it looks like we will always have money to replace, we will have a conveyer belt of youngsters coming through. Look at Celtic, always buying well and selling at a profit. Barcelona do it too.

BUZZING COYR!!!

I like the sound of most of the Dutch league players. But shouldn't, our first priority be to get Corkie on a long term contract.
