Koeman Hints At Two Signings In Before Deadline
Wednesday, 27th Aug 2014 08:29

Ronald Koeman has said that he hopes to bring in at least two new signings before the transfer window closes on Monday.

One of those signings is believed to be Belgium central defender Toby Alderweireld from Athletico Madrid whilst the other is still the fabled wide player that Saints have been chasing since the start of the summer with Andros Townsend being the subject of several bids of late and Saints hoping that as the closure of the window approaches that Spurs will want to get shot of the player.

A third player linked has been Jordie Clasie from Koeman's old club Feyenoord, Clasie had been expected to leave for somewhere bi this summer but the move has not materialised and the midfielder is still at the club, leading to rumour that Koeman might just nick the player before the window closes.

If he does this would leave us over stocked in the central midfield department and it could be that if he does land Claise, Koeman might use Schneiderlin as bait to Spurs to land Townsend, certainly in any other situation that would make sense, but of course this is not an ordinary summer at Saints and after the promise that Schneiderlin would not be sold, it would take an extraordinary set of dealings to placate the fans if it did happen.

I saw Sammy Lee in a restaurant on bank holiday Sunday late afternoon with some others including Toby Alderweireld and another player I didnt look at too closely. Heard it here first.

where was Spider last night, not even on the bench for us. Clasie too was left out of his team to play yesterday, I think a deal has been done. Was the other player Townsend???

first half was pretty depressing. Very slow, no creativity, no leadership. They had the best chance which came from a long kick by their goal keeper. Yoshida was caught on his toes and their striker was clean through,. Luckily he completely messed it up. Second half was a lot better. I can imagine RK gave them a right kick up the arse. In the end it was a 2-0 win so cant complain too much. RK did his job at half time to change things. Whats important is that we start to impose a higher tempo from the beginning. RK will know this and hopefully its something that can be easily changed. There were definitely more long kicks from our keeper rather than playing to the wing backs. Not something i enjoy to be honest. I still feel like we are working on a new style and it will take some time to develop. I thought shane long did ok, did a lot of the running pelle cant do and was unlucky not have his crosses converted. Positives were another clean sheet, fraser looking solid throughout. Cork getting a goal at last! and Pelle off the mark. Great work form the fans. Still a lot of work to do but not losing is equally as important right now.

Hear alderweireld is going to Sunderland on a season long loan. Coupled with Koeman saying we're not looking at any more defenders and i think this deal was never really in the offing. Tho I would love to be wrong and for the player sightings to be true.

In Holland its being touted as a done deal that Clasie is coming to Saints with Morgan off to spurs. Pochettino says he wants to keep Townshend but who knows how much truth there is in that. And I don't buy the Cerci rumours at all! He didn't want to go to Everton fos they were too small a club for him apparently so can't see him coming to us.

Obviously a winger is a target...who knows who else Koeman is looking at.

Yea..sure you saw them. Clasie actually played in Feyenoord's last match at the weekend.

Clasie and/or Alderweireld would be amazing signings. Alderweireld is the one we need, being a top quality centre back. I'd be very impressed if we got him.
Clasie would be a massive coup, especially as he's just the type of player Man Utd need. If we got him then we'd sell Schneiderlin and/or Cork or Wanyama. I could definitely see us selling Schneiderlin to Spurs with Townsend coming to us as part of the deal. Townsend is quite similar to Puncheon in the way he can be awful one week and a match winner the next. He's very hit and miss but we desperately need more attacking options and with a run of first team games he could get back to the form that got him playing for England.
I saw WBA signed the Portuguese international winger Varela. He'd have been a good option for Saints. Just what we need.
As for Alessio Cerci, he's a great player, again just what we need, but surely we've got very little chance of getting him.

As I said it was Alderweireld who was with them that I could identify, other player looked a bit like Clasie after google check. Wykeham Arms pub, Winchester c.5pm on Sunday, probably not your sort of pub Brady100

If Scneiderlin leaves we are screwed. He is probably the best and most important player in our team and I cant understand how selling him to enable the purchase of Towsend is anything other than stupidity. We have Ramirez, Jrod on the wings and davis can play on the right. We just cant sell anymore players!!!!!!!!

Why are they still pursuing this??? The only way I would do this deal is if Townshend comes here now, and there is a clause that if he scores 10 or more goals between now and the next window, then, and only then, do we sell them Morgan (at a huge price).

i cant decide on whether keeping morgan is a positive step or not. One side it sends out a message and obvisouly retains our best midfielder. On the otherside, will he perform as well as last season given he doesnt want to be here....will having that negativity be damaging to the team/spirit/moral, etc....and also, if we know he is going next season...should we just get it done early doors. I want morgan to stay but if he has given up on us then it may be time to move on

I have just finished recovering from a positive comment by monte!

Keeping Morgan until at least January seems to have become symbolic of something or other.

We do have good options in defensive midfield but he is the best of them...

Good grief we do NOT want Townsend. He (was) a tidy player but he's got massive personal problems that have got him into all sorts of Gascoignesque situations at Spurs (they breed 'em).

What we need is enough defenders that Yosh is only off the bench in emergencies and Jos never gets further than making the after-match drink a fun place to be. Don't mind if he pulls on a Saints shirt to do it ;o)

The midfield is stuffed with talent - RK would be crazy to spend more there.

Agree with most of the above.
We must keep Morgan at all costs. I honestly don't think he will be disruptive, it's not in his character, and above all, no dealing with Spuds.
So no townshend thank u.

I think that Classie will be the replacement for Ramirez and not for Schneiderlein as so many seem to have assumed Both Krueger and Koeman have said that MS is staying with such categorical statements that it will be difficult for them to rescind their refusal to sell without looking foolish. I think it will also mean that Cork stays which is also good news.

Don't care if we don't get Townsend, in fact would prefer others anyway, why wouldn't we go for Remy for instance...he's fast and scores goals and is supposedly available for £8.5m. Added bonus is that it might make HR cry a little!

Remy would be prefect, so much better than Long, but I doubt he'd come to us.

Clasie isn't an attacking midfielder, he sits in front of the defence and creates from deep. I doubt we'll get him but if we do then it would surely mean the end of Cork or Wanyama.

What we need is either Alderweireld or Van Dijk, and one or two more attacking options. Time is running out and in recent years Saints haven't done well with their last minute panic buys.
