Fans Advised To Allow More Time Due To Southampton Boat Show For Newcastle Game
Thursday, 11th Sep 2014 13:41

Southampton Boat show is a very popular event, but it does cause traffic chaos when it co incides with a Saints home game, as it does this weekend.

Saints supporters and indeed Newcastle fans intending to head to St Mary's by car on Saturday for the Southampton V Newcastle United match are advised that traffic will be especially heavy due to the Boat Show being held in and around the Mayflower Park area.

This often causes gridlock in that part of the City Centre and those heading into Southampton by road are advised to allow a little longer for their journey and try to avoid that area.

Access to the City via Millbrook Road is usually busy on a match day but will be worse with the Boat Show, going in might not be so bad with most Boat Show traffic being already in, but with both the game and the Boat Show customers coming out of the city in the early evening it will be gridlocked.

likewise the Avenue, the main route into the city for those coming from the North.

Car Parking in West Quay, hectic at the best of times will be even worse, however it is possible to find sufficient parking etc away from the area.

For those coming into the City Centre to park the advice is to use the car parks around the London Road area of the City, on a Saturday the multi story car parks in both Grosvenor Square and Salisbury Street are usually not full due to being out of the shopping areas so could be a good bet for fans going to the game.

Out of towners: drive to Hythe, park for nothing, get the ferry across £5, walk to ground. Great fun: no traffic!
