No New Caps So Far But Can Fonte Start The Ball Rolling
Saturday, 11th Oct 2014 08:44

Both Nathaniel Clyne and Graziano Pelle failed to get off the bench for their countries, but can José Fonte bring some new cap joy tonight when Portugal play.

José Fonte will be hoping for better luck than his fellow Saints potential International debutantes when he faces Morgan Schneiderlins French side in a friendly, Fonte will be hoping that unlike them he gets the chance to play and win his first cap for his country.

If he does it will be a fitting tribute to a player who like Schneiderlin and ex Saints Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert has risen from League One to the Premier League with the club and now is in his countries squad.

Clyne was of course the victim of a baffling selection choice from the England manager and Pelle didn't get off the bench as Italy struggled to beat Azerbaijan last night, but hopefully Fonte will go one better in France tonight and win his first cap and start the ball rolling that will hopefully see both of the other two get their first games at full international level.
